Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

His cousin is Cyril Rioli.

His uncle was Dean Rioli.

His grand uncle was Maurice Rioli.

And his second cousin from Italy is Ravi Rioli

On a serious note though something tells me that those 88kgs aren't all muscle.

Would have to trim down a bit and if Garlett was available for P40 I'd rather pick him.

I would give my other horse for a smart back pocket as well. A Matty Whelan would do us wonders as would a Paul Hopgood or a Yeatsy or Alan Johnston for that matter. An attacking smart player to extract the ball and set up an attack would be great.

What about Clayton Mcartney from Vic Country? played at dandenong stingrays and was talked up as a certain first rounder last year but dropped off a little bit. Played footy with his cousin up here so know a little bit about him.

Crumbing forwards are not as essential as they used to be. Look at Carlton this year, they relied on their small forwards and not only did they not all play well together, they actually didn't do much as individuals either. The small forward these days is generally a resting midfielder

Very good call, only have to see Clark when he was playing well in 2012 that he played an extra crumber aswell.

That's true. Any midfielder should be able to crumb as that is what they do at the centre bounce. Far too many people overrate small forwards. The only one I would consider is Mark LeCras and he's not even that small

I think Milne's stats say a good one is worth gold, if you can find one. Farmer, yes, Betts yes, Rioli, but they are rare.

And they used to call them rovers who rested in the forward pocket.

See nothings changed just the nomenclature.

Not to forget that rotations will be capped next year. There may be a premium on midfielders that can rest forward, either assuming the role of crumbed and goal sneak, or defensive blocker on the opposition back link up option.

The role of the pure small goal sneak forward may evolve with the new rules. Let's see.

Btw- Fitzy is not the small forward option. Imagine him as a link up half forward flanker, pinch hitting in the ruck, galloping around the park and pumping it inside 50 - and occasionally kicking a few on the way through. Hard match-up.

With the free agency and trade period having already delivered four midfielders to date and another seemingly on the way via draft pick 9, I think its time to look around for a dangerous crumbing forward either through what's left of trading, delisted free agents or the draft.

We have Shannon Byrnes but his best days are in the past. I think we would definitely cap off our efforts if we could find a player capable of kicking goals on a regular basis at the feet of Clark, Dawes, Hogan and Howe but who can we chase?

I think back to the days when Jeff Farmer was at his best roaming the forward line and causing havoc. He turned us from also rans into a formidable team back at the turn of the century. A player of his ilk would be handy to say the least.

WJ I started a thread about the same topic about the same time.

Your thoughts on Willie Rioli?

Far too many people underrate small forwards.

Me....no I just don't rate them. Particularly with capped interchange, goal kicking mids is what we need. The days of the resting rover might be back except there will be no rest these days.

Cyril to a large extent went under the radar at draft time. How many of you would like to see him at the MFC now.

I know the family and I tell you he is a good get.

Any way just remember where you heard his name from.

Wasn't Cyril also a little overweight when drafted? I don't think you can rule out a player based on this. Given we'd take him with a later pick, it's speculative anyway. If Roos and his team see something in him, I hope they pull the trigger and worry little about his current weight.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
