That's the point, dude. If we finish 9th, not only will I be stoked, he'll be far more inclined to want to stay because he'll see us as heading in the right direction. Not to mention we'd be far more attractive to decent players at other teams.

And if we finish in much the same way we do now and he decides to go then yeh, it'll be pick 5ish, so we move on.

not necessarily.

if he's already been contacted by a hawks or a blues, or even an ed pie? cats?

us finishing mid ladder, is no guarantee of anything re Chip.

It pains me to say. I think that he's already making plans for jumping ship next year. Would love to be wrong, but...

He's done two articles saying how much Melbourne means to him despite the quagmire of [censored] he's had to swim through. Meanwhile, he's not signing a contact extension.

Start of next year it will be, "I'm dealying any contract negotiations until the end of the year." Maybe his manager will be smart enough to rephrase this, so as to not telegraph the intention too much.

If we have an opportunity to get value for him in the last week of trading, do it. Love him to pieces, but we need something to show for losing a top tier defender. Remember, AFL wants no compo for FA next year.

C'mon posters, bring on your hate, I can take it.

Any sensible person can see this is reading the tea leaves correctly.

He doth protest too much and for no apparent reason really.

Gee I hope Rfpc is correct and he is a FA band 1 compensation pick because otherwise we will be screwed. And come to think of it losing a full back of his quality equates to us being screwed no matter the draft compensation.

Posted

Frawley talks about leadership and wanting to remain in the leadership group. Well, what better way for him to display such qualities by committing to a long-term deal.

Posted

I would not complain if we traded him in the next week, as long as we got a fair deal

it happens all the time in the NBA, teams trade players before they have a chance to become a FA and lose them for nothing

I love Chip and want him to stay. but if he doesnt commit in the next 10 days he should be traded

Forget 'band 1' big boy. If the AFL has its way, "No soup for you!"

If we, as a club, can't back ourselves to keep our best players, we may as well shut down now.

Seriously people, chill out.

Hopefully if we can only only secure a decent midfield, we will have more use for key forwards than key backmen as it is at the moment!

thats the big danger, that compo picks get lost in translation.

it could end up the weaker Clubs are just surrogates, before the powerful to abduct their young.

lower clubs are perennial bottom dwellers, developing kids only to lose them for picks & back to the draft.

Yep. We got to make him the offer in terms of $$$ and years that he deserves and then he has to step up and take it and play like it.

Otherwise he becomes the Trav Cloke or BJ Goddard/Buddy Franklin of 2014 and is a distraction we dont need. Not to mention losing him for a compo pick only which potentially is a nice pick but doesn't replace a mature quality full back. Plenty of teams will be interested in him in 2014 and I'd see Gold Coast would lead the charge with a massive offer.

From what I've heard Gold Coast has spoken to his management. If he's not willing to committ now trade him to GC, they have players and picks that they can trade.

Better we get something while we can!

I think all we know is Chip hasn't been mentioned as signing a contract extension.

& I think it was fairly public, that Chip wanted out to the Saints earlier in the year. thats what has started all this talk.

& if we finish 9th next year, it could be around P11ish, or later?

Was it.....nothing other than an internet rumour as far as I'm concerned

Am I right in thinking Chip would be a RFA at next seasons end ?

I hope it doesn't come to this.

Trading your best players because you fear they might not re-sign and go elsewhere is worse than desperation.

After Frawley would be Garland, then Jones. I suppose we'd also get rid of Hogan because he comes from WA.

God help us, if MFC reaches these panic stations.

Seriously people, chill out.

We only just kept Watts on the back of Roos signing on. Jackson, Bartlett and several other new appointments can only provide so much influence to keeping players.

Another sht year and Frawley will seek out success at another club and I won't blame him. Frawley would look at Rivers playing off in a Prelim, Petterd in an Elim and will most likely watch on as Sylvia plays deep into finals next season.

A footballers career doesn't last forever. Gotta make hay while the sun shines.

Yes.

thought so ^_^

I was thinking the same thing.

If he is RFA, and other clubs throw a large amount of coin at him to land him as we would expect them to do. The MFC might be the first AFL club to block the move, and match the offer by other clubs. If I recall that also means matching the term of the contract and so if they offer 3-5 years, we secure him for that period...

my thoughts exactly..We can keep or not ( read match bid or not )

Im not sure what all the fuss is about....but then are we ever !!

The fuss is about losing a key player for nothing.

If 'his heart beats true', like is suggested, sign on. If not, look after the clubs interest and get a first rounder/key midfielder in compensation now. No options next year, this year we do.

Can you confirm the MFC has put an offer in front of Frawley?

Posted

Do you know for a fact that he has been offered a contract extension and refused to sign it?

Do you not concede that whilst it might make you happy, it really could mean a better deal for Frawley if he holds off?

Meaning that he is only acting in his best interests, as anyone should be allowed to do?

Has there been any indication from Frawley that he intends to leave?

If that's the case, why doesn't he just let the club know now, and they'll trade him, getting him where he wants to go a year early?

???????????????????????????????????

Posted

thats right, but he/they didn't come out to deny it, full throttle.

I believe the rumour myself, not sure whether you do or not.

thats right, he can be honest with us now.

if he asked the club to trade him this year, its time for him to do the right thing, sign, (even for 1Yr), or say "I've had enough & want out".

then we can deal for both our interests.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
