WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - BERNIE VINCE

Featured Replies

Even gun players have an off year and Bernie fell out with the administration after his naked party antics on the grog.

You are really selling him to me.

Rucci seems to think it will be a direct swap for pick 2; that guy is a deadset moron. I very much doubt that any pick under 20 would be available and would hope it's our pick 36.

Crows midfielder Bernie Vince acts as a free agent a year early

And if Vince decides his future is better placed in becoming a Demon or at another AFL club, the 28-year-old could deliver the early draft pick Sanderson is craving to claim one of SA's under-18 national champions such as midfielder James Aish.

I'm down with that.

As long as Sloane is thrown in as a sweetener.

Rucci is exposing his intelligence and footy IQ there. Wow.

Who in their right mind thinks that Vince is worth a top 5 pick?

I think there's also an element of trying to sensationalise the potential trade, just to increase the interest.

I don't believe Rucci's really stupid enough to think we'd give up pick 2 for Vince.

Vince is a very good midfielder, probably averages B+ across a seasons. He is a walk up start for our midfield. Get the deal done MFC but do not use pick 2 unless a genuine A grade 22 year old is included in the deal. Perhaps Shiel, Vince and Michie coming our way in 2014?

Bernie Vince smashed Geelong apart last year and won them the game .

He crunched Selwood into submission .

If we get him , I will be stoked.

Any other Essay kids coming to Melbourne?

We should call our training base "RUNDLE".

I would settle on Crouch and Vince actually.

Yep i'd take that!

Sloane and Vince for 2, 20 and Jamar.

Way to much..... pick to alone

We need to be greedy here, its Pick 2 remember

If the Crows are considering this to get a lower pick than 30 to get Polec.

Why wouldn't we just use compo pick or pick 20 to grab Polec instead.

After all we have grabbed Clark who wanted to go home to WA.

Melbourne is a lot closer to Adelaide than Brisbane.

Yep i'd take that!

If Sloane wanted to come to Melbourne, pick 2 would get it done.

If Sloane doesn't want to come we need to pay overs; why would Adelaide swap a young established gun midfielder for a potential gun midfielder?

If Vince leaves next year they get nothing for him under FA. The sweetener in the Sloan for pick 2 deal then is that we take Vince for pick 20 now which is a win for them. Jamar is steak knives to throw the balance in their favour but he is no real loss to us.

That gives them 2 picks before their first pick this year, makes it worthwhile. Also their ruck stocks are pretty low, so Jamar may be a good stop gap to support Jacobs and Graham and Jenkins.

We get the young gun mid we need and a second older mid for 3 years. They are now 2 of our best 3 mids for our first two picks and a Rickman who doesn't get a game.

We certainly aren't paying overs in my eyes.

I would settle on Crouch and Vince actually.

I was either going to put Crouch or Sloane, but thought putting Crouch was a bit too cheeky.

How can Jamar be a sweetener and tip it in their favour if he is no real loss to us? You kind of contradict yourself there.

Sloane and Crouch are no chance of being let go by Adelaide. They want Aish but not at the expense of two of their best players. Vince will go for a second rounder, either our current one or the compo pick we get for Sylvia.

Sylvia for Vince. I'd probably take that.

I'm still disappointed that Sylvia left the club, although I'm not quite as disappointed as I thought I'd be.

I've got bartender mates who said last night that Sylvia would hit town HARD on weekends. He didn't want to stay, he was probably counting down the hours for the to Free Agency period to start.

...

I agree with the bit about sloan and crouch, and about vince.

RE Jamar, I don't think we need him. With Gawn and Spencer, and Clark and Fitz as back ups, he won't get a game.

On the other hand Adelaide's ruck stocks are light on with a couple of talls leaving the last few years and they need support, especially if Jacobs cannot regain his form. So getting a player to fill their needs without paying is a bonus.

I see the contradiction but I think it is probably correct.

Like for like replacement with Sylvia - not a 'smart' footballer, not overly skilled, chooses when to go and has had an incredibly inconsistent career.

Would do it for our Sylvia compo pick, so after second round, so 38ish I guess.

See it exactly the same, he's a replacement for Silvia. Maybe a bit more of a true midfielder and has reached some higher points with a b&f but pretty much like for like.

Our Sylvia compensation pick for Vince feels about right. Obviously more likely to happen if we get Band 3 and thus pick 20-odd, but regardless, losing Sylvia and 'replacing' him with Vince just feels about right.

Unless Sloane or some other A-grader from somewhere is involved, pick 2 stays far, far away from this.

would be an amazing pick up, especially if we could snare him for pick 21.

would love to see a trade like:

Pick 2, Pick 21 and 5th round pick for Sloane, Vince and there third round.

for a three way trade involving our pick 2, 21

and We get Dom Tyson and Vince

generally gun footballers finish in their club's top 10 in the B n F when they play 21 games.

Don't know if you know a bout a guy named Stevie J who finished outside the cats top 10.

With this logic you wouldn't call Stevie J a gun footballer?

2nd rounder is all we will get. Vince + pick 42 for pick 20? Or too high? Don't think Adelaide would do it for pick 36 as they may as well just keep him.

That idea came from an Adelaide fan on Bigfooty. Obviously pick '20' will now be around the pick 23 mark. and 42 would become 45.

Not unreasonable.

The other thing for Adelaide to consider is they don't have any top draft picks and Vince is a free agent next year. A decent draft pick in hand is worth gold for them this year and is probably better than the compensation pick they'll get if he leaves next year.

If the development of Sloane, Dangerfield, Kerridge, Grigg and Crouch go as expected and a few others then Adelaide will probably be tossing up between Van Berlo (capt), Scott Thompson (signed a new deal) and Vince for game time. Might be best for them to trade him now.

If Sloane wanted to come to Melbourne, pick 2 would get it done.

Why do you think Roos made that comment in the press this week about teams getting rid of players a year before they become free agents...

He was talking to the Crows...

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
