This my tip from yesterday:

Hawks by 13. I want Freo to win and will be barracking very hard for them in from of the tele. But the Hawks will win because:

1. Freo's impressive wins over the past 2 weeks have come on very narrow grounds, which has suited their choking, manic press very well. The MCG is very wide, almost a circle, and this means the defensive press gaps are wider and Freo have to run more to fill these spaces. Hawks kicking skills will find a way through these gaps.

2. One of Roughhead, Franklin or Gunston will kick 4-5 goals. I can't see Freo's defence successfully covering all three.

3. They will attack Crowley and give him the worst 2 hours of his life. I wouldn't be surprised if they "take him out", or hassle him so much he is subbed off. Mitchell could end up with 30+ possessions.

David Mundy for the Norm Smith.

Not far off - and Mundy played well.

Ballantyne and Pierce - absolute shocking games.

Bad kicking has cost so many side premierships over the past 20 years - extraordinary.

I've hated Hawthorn since they beat us in the prelim in 1961.

Not me Robbie they are what we should have been for the last 49 years.

Alas we have been run by very ordinary operators for 40 of those years.

Hawthorn are the objective for the MFC IMO.

Very over rated, so many teams win in their first go at it. Geelong 2007, Hawthorn 2008, Sydney 2012 (very few left from 2005) all with coached by first up GF coaches as well.

If I could be bothered I would find the figures that would show the Geelong and Hawthorn flags aren't the norm The Swans lost one in 06 as well.

Experience counted today with turnovers and golakicking yips costing Freo when they clearly had the team to win that game.

Freo are going to be a powerhouse for a while to come.

Not sure about that Dan. The Big Pav and The Monster are getting on/injuries. Difficult guys to replace.

Not sure about that, whilst some of their young talent is very good much of their spine (Pavlich, Sandilands, Mundy and McPharlin) are around that 30 year age range.

EDIT: BBO beat me to it.

Can someone tell me how I find one of my old posts where I mentioned earlier this year that Fremantle would win the flag? I just want to see what date it was that I made that call, and find the poster/s that questioned my judgement.

For the purpose of this thread, I haven't changed my view.

Guess the other poster/s was right about your "judgement".

I could put the Collingwood 2010 flag in there as well plus their 1990 one, the Swans didn't have many left of their 2006 squad, Brisbane's first one, Port's first one. It really doesn't matter, I thought the Hawks would win because they were the better team all year as they were today and they did. Things like GF experience are really overrated.

A lot of teams lose GF's and come up the next year and a lot of teams win them at their first attempt, you just have to take your chances when you get a shot.

That's a lot of hate going way back Robbie! But i hate them 2. More because of the 1987 prelim!

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
