I wouldn't be too worried if it didn't happen this year.

End of next year maybe? Roos stays for 3 full years and still manages a 2 year handover period.

Just a slight, hmm let's say, negative to the succession-plan craze.

What happens, in 3 years, if Ross Lyon's push at Freo is over a la the Saints 2011 (0 flag? 1 flag? 2 flags? Doesn't matter, it's a hypothetical) and he looks to head back to Vic. Roos' is on the way out but we've already been grooming Joe Blow for 3 years. Tough decision to be made?

Damn, who's our plan B after Simpson?

Simpson has already been senior assistant at a premiership side

The next step for him must surely be as Senior Coach - not as an assistant with a bottom side.

Don't think he could ever have been Plan A

And Neeld was assistant at a premiership side!

That's a good point. If Simpson signs with the Eagles and we have told Burns no, who are we looking at ? My feeling with this new administration, is that we already have someone stitched up. They don't seem to leave a lot to chance.

However, I have no clue as who will be appointed successor. Kirk, maybe? There don't seem to be too many whispers.

Could be onto something with Bassett.

Would explain the delay and the lack of any talk around the traps.

I'd also be surprised for us to have told certain candidates they were unsuccessful prior to someone agreeing to take the position.

I imagine a bloke like Simpson would find an apprenticeship under Roos as appealing, but not quite as much as taking the reigns at a club with as much clout as WestCoast.

I think Simpson would be our preference, but we are waiting to see if be gets offered the Eagles job, and then if so we to our plan B.

Simpson has done his apprenticeship, and it was under a 2 time premiership coach. Why would he want to do another one

I am hoping we get Nathan Bassett, he was my number 1 choice from day 1

Because 4 years under 1 coach isn't actually a lot.

He may, if he is smart, wish to gain some more experience under another topline AFL coach.

But yeah, understanding the benefits of that would take a certain level of intelligence...

Bassett has a good rep, but hasn't even done any work as an AFL assistant coach.

If he doesn't get the job at WC I am sure he would be most interested in getting a guarantee to be coach after 2-3 years. Besides Sumich very in the frame also at WC

Sumich has to be on the radar... West Coast for 10 years, experienced premierships both as player and coach. Currently with R. Lyon. Could he be another hinkley hidding in the dark?

    TRAINING: Friday 28th February 2025

A couple of Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you their observations from today's training session before the Demons head off to Perth for their final Practice Match. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Beautiful morning, not much wind, more than a couple of dozen spectators.  The players were up and about, boisterous and having fun. One of their last drills were three teams competing in a hard at it, handball game in a small area. Goody

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
