JJ Liston Trophy

KC from Casey

Recommended Posts

James Magner is one of the favourites and Jesse Hogan an outside chance for tonight's JJ Liston Trophy for VFL B & F.

In the meantime, congratulations to Casey Scorpions' Aiden Lindsay who has won the A.Todd Medal for the best Development League player with just 13 votes. His teammate Jordan Pollard was runner up 1 vote behind him.

If Magner gets delisted (and if they're not going to play him, why keep a spot on the list for him), I genuinely hope another club drafts him and he tears it up. I don't see how he's any less effective than Beamer as an inside, see-the-ball-get-the-ball-pound-the-thing-vaguely-forwards kind of player. Beamer is good enough at that to be one of the better players in a midfield nearly good enough for the eight, so I can't see why Magner isn't good enough at it for the worst midfield in the league.

Because Magner is slow as a wet week and his very poorly skilled

Don't make me laugh, Beamer should still be one of ours except for mister Commandant Klink and his all or nothing Mantra!!

Ok Where was I ?? Oh Magner.. anyone that cannot kick 25 yards and is slower than me must be surplus to needs!

Now NEEEEEEXXXT??!

Bit of a kick in the sprouts in Jimmy Magner wins and can't get a run in the worst midfield of all time.

Says something about the VFL standard relative to the AFL.

There have been a number of Liston trophy winners in the past 15 years that have not been good enough for AFL.

Just like the morrish medal winner (Best TAC player) often doesn't end up very good in the AFL. Of course mitigating circumstances - the medal winner is often overlooked for rep teams but the point remains.

Melbourne has a history of delisting the leading vote getter in the secondary competition, with one player famously saying at the Bluey Truscott while accepting his trophy

" I guess this means I'll be delisted next week" - and he was. If they are playing enough games in the seconds to get the most votes - they are not good enough for the seniors.

Agree

Previous winners include Demons Joe Rugolo , Paul Johnson, Shane Valenti (twice) and Ezra Poyas

That is bullsh*t, we are an absolute rabble and Magner should've been given a gig.

It says two things.. 1. Is that we have a bloke tearing it up who can't get a gig in a shocking midfield.

2. Why even have the bloke on our list if we never intended on playing him? Well done MFC.

Anyway, onwards and upwards, Neeld was about as competent as my under 13 coach and let's just erase 2013.

C'mon Roosy.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
