THE MELBOURNE Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of George de Crespigny to the role of Chief Commercial Officer.

Seems to be replacing Peter Maynard from the structure but maybe it is a change in the structure.

I guess we will find out - he was the General Manager of the Brumbies just below the CEO and that would be some of Matthew Green's responsibilities...

More changes to come I am sure.

There family has been involved previously with the the club if I recall.

aahhh thought the name rang a bell.

If the Chief Commercial Officer a new position?

If not, who last filled this position?

I think its an elevation of a current role but more in sync with normal corporate structure... my we are going places arent we..lol

- Matthew Green – Chief Operations Officer

Is listed on the website of current head of finance/admin department. So I guess either the new guy comes in ahead of him or he's moved/been moved on.

de Crespigny could well be a successor to PJ long term if things go well. Resume looks pretty good.

Wasnt he that guy who piloted the qantas airbus after the engine blew up?

Good man to have on board if he has experiences in avoiding plane crashes, because we basically are one.

We are a train wreck, I don't think a QANTAS pilot could help.

Well its normally incumbent upon the current role sitter to find their replacement. Quite common practice. Makes sense if such but also as part of our new "21st century best practice" business structure we would have a Chief Commercial Officer.

Slowly but surely we rebuild

robert champion de crespigny is a name long-associated with the mfc.

was partnered with gutnick as part of the takeover of grand central mining.

Its high time Joseph was back about the club again...

how about it Jo,, come on back & support the club again... we've learnt most of our needed lessons.

I'm assured by a club insider that this is not the situation, but I hope this is not a case of "we need this guy, let's create a position for him". This practice has caused the club untold problems in the past.

If, however, it is the case of a considered re-structure and the club sought out the best person for the role, fair enough.

we need cash flow and sponsorship. It should not be the job of the CEO to do it all.

It is a clever move if he is the right choice.

Office next door to PJ....

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
