Joel Macdonald - Retirement Announced

Featured Replies

Well done on getting the most out of himself and playing 10 years of AFL. Enjoy retirement.

Will play one more VFL match then hang them up.

Came to us in 2010 to help provide some leadership. Formed part of a top quality half back line with Rivers, Bruce and Grimes in 2010 that help us climb the furthest up the ladder since 2006 but after that has really been a fringe player.

His new business is - liquorun.com

Thank you Joel.

Hope you overcome your injuries and niggles and have a rewarding after footy life.

Thanks for always bring your A game of effort to the contest each week.

Thanks for the service Joel, always admired your hardness at the contest and you should hold your head up high as you always gave it everything.

Loved his effort and his hardness. He lacked some polish but was always still a favourite due to his great endeavor. Hope this rubbed off on a few of his team mates.

All the best for the future champ!

all the best joel, thanks for your guaranteed 100% effort everytime you pulled on the mfc jumper

I always say, I will support anyone who gives everything they have got when representing the MFC, and Joel definitely falls under that category.

Thanks Macdonald for your service!

That's good that we don't have to drop him - one free space (although at times I forgot he was even on the list)

Played with courage, which I greatly admire. Any player you've ever run out with will respect you for that very reason. Well done.

Good to see Joel Mac being recognised for what he was, a player who gave everything he had every time he played........12 players have tweeted, so shows respect in change room

Got to be a pretty decent footballer to play over 100 AFL games. You have our respect and gratitude.

Well done Joel,a great overhead mark for your size too.

Can you fill a syringe with your courage & determination and jab it into Jack Watts Heart as you walk out ?

Cheers

Always seemed like a ripper of a bloke off the field, good luck to him.

Spot On. Joel MacDonald was always a solid defender. Made up in effort what he lacked in skills.

All the best JoelMac.

.

Any idea why he is only playing one more game for Casey?

I don't know if his heart is in it. I know he was filthy about having to play Casey 2nds a few weeks back.

I wouldn't ask him about his perception of the club right now. I don't think he has a had a happy last season of footy.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
