PJ needs to be on the phone ASAP. Remember, he knows what the other side of the tracks looks like as well as he spent a long time at North and he was successful there too.

Football Director?

Isn't that Greg Healy's role?

I think Walsh is very very capable, but should we be bringing Collingwood people onto our board?

Since we definitely don't want Hawthorn people in the ranks.

Just asking the question...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but he currently does not perform the role at Collingwood that we would refer to as GMFO, does he?

If he does, I can't see a better fit.

Walsh is more a football professional. Truth is he has been at North longer than he was at Collingwood.

Jeffrey is a different matter all together. He was (and still is) a fan before he was an administrator.

Ivawornsmith summed it up best about Jeffrey Gibb: we are already a circus, we don't need to bring PT Barnum on board.

Fair call that Walsh was at North twice as long as Collingwood.

I'm not sure of how well Healy has performed, but I'm not sure it's the best move to beg a club legend to fill a role, then tell him he's not needed 18 months later.

I guess in the end it should all come down to his performance in the role, and I don't think any of us on the outside are privy to that.

Again, big difference between healys football director role on the board, and Geoff walshs full time as head of football at collingwood, they just use different terminology! He is not on their board, similar to role josh Mahoney now.

Would be huge get, but seems he has lost a bit of passion, and needs to time off to find it again. PJ would be derelict not to give him a call, but not sure if the times are right, hope we can wait til end of season for him!

Again??

It was the question I asked that no one answered.

It seems they use the same terminology for different roles.

So it is GMFO, as I questioned.

In that case, I think there will be a reason why Walsh has decided to step down.

I think people are getting a bit confused with football director, a board position and manager of the football department, the job Josh Mahoney is doing at the moment. If Walsh wanted to stay in football then he would be an ideal person for the chief, boss, manager or whatever you want to call it of the FD, he ticks a lot of boxes.

One MAJOR problem this potentially throws up for us:

IF Walsh hasn't stepped down because we've secretly signed him up;

IF we can't convince Walsh to come to us as our new GMFO;

IF we haven't already line up someone else equally competent;

THEN we now have formidable competition in our attempt to find a GMFO.

Collingwood is an attractive workplace for many.

I hope Peter Jackson has been working hard (which I don't doubt) and making a lot of progress on this appointment (of which I'm uncertain).

Strange time to up & leave, would have to think he'll pop up at another club after his 3 months notice to Collingwood is up.

This is what I hope to god is true.

Have no doubt the Afl will want walsh to melb , the guys in melb are just treading water at the moment.there wont be any emotion by PJ when deciding who stays or goes

Not sure that is was "don't want Hawthorn people" rather "don't want a certain Hawthorn person as President"

Not sure that we have had any Collingwood people on our board.

Are you referring to Chris Dawes, the last Collingwood person on board?

Or maybe you are referring to an ex-coach??

Hawthorn are also looking for someone to replace Mark Evans, so this could also be linked. Evidently Fantasia is not doing a great job

That leaves 4 Clubs looking for this type of person (Pies, Hawks, Dogs, Dees) and maybe Essendon depending on the wash up of ASADA, makes it tough for us to get a top one

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

    Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

    Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

    Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

    THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

    Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
