Melbourne's new five-man coaching selection committee will meet for the first time today.

The panel, chaired by new chief executive Peter Jackson, also includes football staff Todd Viney and Josh Mahoney, board member Greg Healy and coaching legend and AFL Coaches Association president David Parkin.

Sure beats the hell out of the last panel of Schwab, McLardy, Lyon and Spargo.

Good to see Parkin helping out.

Then again it could also just be the newspaper reporters just makin stuff up.

Surely not AS

The papers are always telling the truth, the whole truth and nothin but the truth!

Interesting in this article is that the commission meets on Monday so we should know what we are going to get ie pp, $$$$ etc.

Below is what was in the article:
The AFL Commission will meet on Monday to consider Jackson's bail-out package for the club, believed to be about $2.7 million.

Hopefully Tuesday we have a clearer picture of the way forward.

Can someone post the full article its saying i have to register for the news or some crap like that.

Parkin on league Teams tonight 6.30 504 on Foxtel, will be interesting to hear from him, he was a Mark Neeld fan.

It's called a paywall and if you have Chrome you can just copy and paste the last bit of the URL and search for the article on Google and get around it.

What rpfc said, or this should work too http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-premiership/the-afl-will-support-melbourne-snare-premiership-coach-paul-roos/story-e6frf39c-1226677378131#.Ud3p3PmLBlw

Another way to get around it is clicking on this link, it's the Herald suns Adelaide paper The Advertiser - Adelaide supporters are obviously not as footy crazy as us Vic's so they don't get charged for it....

Go to news.com.au . Has all the Hun articles

www.news.com.au/sport/afl

Is the same as

www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl

But the former has no paywall.

Simples.

The quality of the coaching sub committee shouldn't be understated, no Gary Lyon and this time we have a premiership coach on board.

Whatever way we go I have confidence we have the right people making the decisions this time.

sub comittee a good or bad sign in terms of landing roos

I like the following line from Roos himself in the "Dees bid for Roos" article in Real Footy today:

"I think it's got to be someone who you can sell to the members immediately because this is the hard thing for the Melbourne supporters - they may not win next year.''

Maybe it's just my blind optimism, but to me that almost implies that he is covering himself if we fail to set the world on fire in 2014.

sub comittee a good or bad sign in terms of landing roos

An irrelevant sign.

I did touch on this earlier suggesting no panel was really necessary for Roos. I still think thats the case though Jackson is leaving nothing to chance here I suspect.. Possibly having the panel is to indicate we arent being too myopic and are at least capable of looking beyond Roos.

It might just be window dressing also

Sorry mate, they must have changed it as I was reading the article this morning.

Generally going to either The Adelaide Advertiser or news.com avoids the whole paywall thing.

It's not like this panel is costing us heaps and was hard to put together. All but one of the members is already on the pay roll and part of the club. This panel is virtually 5 people sitting together in a cafe and going "so Roos?"... "done".

up to fairly recently the Adelaide Now and Perth Now sites have been a handy workaround. Theyve overhauled them into line withteh HeraldSun ( bless that papers little heart and money lol )

I imagine the root News site will also go this way eventually...but now...:)

Guys this has nothing to do with our next coach.

However on the subject of newspapers and payment.

Putting it simply Newspapers are dieing all around the world and they are trying to go digital via the internet.

Now being almost ancient in the 21st Century I have a subscription to the HUN.

As a result of that I get access to the HUN website as part of the deal.

I seldom use the internet version I find it way inferior to reading a newspaper ( probably just my vintage )

however it is very useful when interstate or OS.

The total packaging I find cost effective and useful.

As to the new coach I have a gut feel that Roos will not be our next coach.

I think he wants the WA job and that is why he has not committed to us.

But again it is only my gut feel.

And more expensive to live. Supposedly more so than Sydney.

Standby for a Dockers and Eagles cap increase...

Didn't he actually say "if you asked me am i interested in coaching, I'd say no, but you haven't asked me that question.." If that was his direct quote looks pretty black and white but so did Hird.

He said "If you asked me 'am I interested in coaching,' I'd say 'No.' But I can only answer for right now. If you ask me that question tomorrow, next month or next year, my answer might be different."

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
