I'm confused. If we keep losing then Neeld is a crap coach who has to go, but if he makes changes after a terrible performance it's not him trying to get a better result, but rather a pathetic "attempt to save his arse"? I thought we wanted the team to win. Isn't that the whole point of the multitude of threads attacking the coach? What will you call it if we start winning games? I don't like it but when you see Hawthorn's starting backline - Gibson, Birchall, Mitchell, Guerra in particular you can see why Neeld is keen to have guys with defensive attitude like Joel Macdonald and Bail in the team. As bad as the result we be anyway if we don't at least keep Hawthorn's backline under pressure to get the ball every time we get the ball from our backline the 4 I named above will just run riot. I think Bail will go to Mitchell and if not Tapscott to Birchall then maybe that's Joel Macdonald's job. I'd rather give that to Tapscott and see if we can play Kent deep forward but I won't be surprised to see Neeld select the player with the greater work rate.

Couple of things playing freo - our lack of a good work rate, really poor defensive structure compared to freo, our tendency to spread evenly at kickouts rather than to get numbers to one side to effectively outnumber the opposition

I think there is more to it behind the scenes that we dont know in regards to magner being dropped. His last two weeks has been good. Adding grunt and hardness. If he was dropped due to leg speed then drop f**king trengove!!

Because largely our shuffle involves players that need shuffling. Pedersen and Sellar shuffling who cares. Gawn and Fitzpatrick each spending a few weeks in AFL then a few weeks in VFL how is that bad development. Same for Kent. Look at Geelong, all their youngsters come in for a fortnight or so then take a break at refocus. Magner in and out who cares.

I don't want the following players shuffled: Watts, Strauss, Tapscott, Blease, Nicholson, Terlich, Jetta, Viney, Matt Jones, Trengove, Tom McDonald, Evans. These are guys at the age/experience level/talent where they need a sustained run to show they will make it as AFL players and if they aren't performing need a good period in the reserves. By in large that is what's happened with this group.

As for Sellar, Pedersen, Dunn, Bail, Magner, Rodan, Byrnes, Spencer, Macdonald they can go in and out as much as the coach wants. If they make the team better keep them in, if not look for someone who does. I don't agree with dropping Magner but the easy question is did Magner make us better and the answer against Freo at least was no.

Same for Kent, Taggert, Toumpas, Fitzpatrick, Gawn. Young guys like this who probably need preseasons to develop and to find form at Casey every now and then can come in for a taste and then go out for a rest. It's best to give them 2 weeks at a time in the seniors so they have week 2 to demonstrate what they learnt in week one but it's no harm in moving them around.

Look at Hawthorn. They have about 18 who are pretty much non negotiable and they are the 18 starting then look at their 7 on the bench and realistically besides picking both rucks its any 4 of them who could play. So they have about 4 spots up to grabs each week minus injuries and therefore will be making anywhere from 0 to 4 changes. We have at a minimum (and i'd say minimum) the 4 on our bench who get picked plus Pedersen, Bail and Rodan makes 7 who come in this week to a struggling side with big concerns about the standard they will play at. How are we meant to send that team out and not expect changes every week.

Nicholson needs to be replaced eventually, but right now he is easily best 22 and a long way ahead of Jetta. He might be a poor user of the ball and a smidge soft, but he competes, runs, and gets the ball. Sadly that's about where the bar is for this side at the moment.

A long way ahead? I see a hell of alot more potential in Jetta than I do in Nicholson. Nicholson has a greater nous for finding It, but Jetta is a FAR better user of the ball (not saying much admittedly). In terms of competing, using a simple measure, Nicho is averaging 2.3 tackles a game. Jetta averages 4.

I still see Jetta being in long term plans. I can't say the same about Nicholson.

I'll admit it comes as a surprise that Jetta has been in the system for 5 years. I doesn't feel that long. He needs to be demanding his spot.

Jamar may have the experience but he's been in sh!t form. Gawn spends half the game wasting away at FF, where the ball comes in 9 times in an hour. All forwards had a stinker last week.

Fitzpatrick, Spencer, Nicho and Sellar named for Casey.

The other 3 from the bench (Kent, Strauss, Macdonald) not named. Which might mean they are set to play alongside Fitzy.

I'd expect Nicho and probably Sellar held out to Sunday anyway though.

I dont think they can afford to drop Jamar to be honest and Gawn and Fitzpatrick in the same team is overkill. Fitzpatrick deserves an opportunity.

Yep...Mitchell, Hodge and Sewell are absolute lighting and skinny kids so we don't need any grunt this week we need to combat the pace of one of the AFL's slowest midfields. Great midfield non the less.

Unfortunately I think you are right 'Nasher', but he shares this problem with Tappy and a few others who seem to have an aversion to getting the ball. Then again this might be the game plan.

You are right, thats why im still waiting. He should be performing this year. no excuses but he has lots of mates i spose.

Thats been said on here but my eyes tell me he is quick .

He busted 3 or 4 tackles last week ,he hits hard and fair ,is skilled.

He needs to be in every week for confidence.

He has been too small ,too injured ,up forward ,down back .

Just let him play ahead of hacks who get the ball and turn it over immediately .

We have plenty of them.

More than once.

I think Mac Donald is a plus we need his never say die attitude back on the field. Can't kick we all know that so there will be a turnover but at least he has a defensive mindset and gives his all.

Magner's a strange one but I've seen far more perplexing changes than that.

MacDonald probably plays as a defensive forward to try to limit the impact of Hawthorn's launching of attacks of half back. They are deadly there.
