Jesus. Imagine if your career rested on James Sellar?

worse players have won premierships as back up tall defenders. Just don't think about trying to make him a forward. If he plays he's worth a chance

So Sellar will replace who? Garland? Frawley?

He's already preparing his post-game excuse...

FMD you have a shot at RR for his anti Mclardy posts any chance he gets, but yours against Neeld are just as ridiculous,

and is your knowledge of the game that limited that it has to be either Garland or Frawley out for Sellar,

  • Garland can play small, medium or tall, from the Suns line up they have Brown, Matera, Bennell who may all get time in the forward line
  • Dunn may get the run with roll on Ablett so there is another tall option out of defence
  • If Dunn goes to Ablett another tall is needed to provide cover against Dixon, May, Lynch and Smith when he rests in the forward line like he did last week
  • Who says Sellar is in and not Davis, we are playing away keep your options open and Casey are not playing so no harm in taking both
  • Gold Coast's side is also not finalised Bennell named at half forward and Nicho is probably the only one named in our back line who could run with him around the ground but would struggle one on one in forward line if he spends time there (see first dot point re Garland)

FTLOG Stuie try expanding your thoughts beyond quoting stats and your bias towards Neeld, I recommend being objective on the odd occasion

I believe there's a good chance Dixon won't come good by Sunday from last weeks leg injury.

That's a big bonus especially given the form he's been in.

If you're going to crack it try reading the actual posts and getting some context.

The argument was about form. Someone was arguing Toumpas didn't deserve a game even though he had a pretty good one last week, similar with Fitzy, yet apparently Sellar who has really not shown a lot was a warranted inclusion.

We used to gift games to players based on draft order, now we seem to gift them based upon how much of a spud you are.

I don't want to see players gifted games.

Agree. That's why I don't think Sellar should be in. His Casey form doesn't warrant it.

can you at least wait and see if he is named. It might be just Dawes and Davey for the skippers and then you'll have no old spuds in, no young players dropped, and maybe, just maybe nothing to whinge about?

and BTW why do some people still have this determined attitude of 'play the kids'.. that has been our policy for the last 5 seasons and that hasn't worked out too well has it

Posted

Yes it does - he was showing aggresion and thats clearly not part of our 'gameplan' ............ jk

No he left the ground & launched...

Obviously they want him to learn that he needs to be aggressive, BUT not get suspended. that is no good for him or the team.

Discipline.

As 'Alex' (A Clockwork Orange) might have said Bluey: "A bit of the old in-out".

That does sound like me...

Read my post mate. You can read right? I said we should have passed the era of gifting games to kids based on draft order.

If Dawes and Davey come in it's still strange changes, 2 mids out 2 forwards in.

Trengove played negating forward role last week and Tapscott played a small CHF role. So really Dawes plays CHF and Tapscott back to negating role and its a forward for a forward.

The other change could be any of Davey (for or not for Kent), Sellar (for or not for Strauss) or Rodan. If Dunn tags he takes over Grimes' midfield spot. I don't think we have a particularly light on team for midfield numbers this week, we are just incredibly light on for midfield talent!

Re gifting games.

My take is that the kids, and the players the coaching staff see as genuine long term players need to earn it. They need to develop and play well to get promoted. We have also recruited a bunch of what i call "fillers". Pederson, Sellar, Rodan, Byrnes etc. These players are there to provide a few things: solid, older bodies, a great example on the training track, some knowlede about how other clubs train, think and work (to bring that perspective to our young list), AND they are also cannon fodder in the ones. If they play great. If they develop, great. If they dont, who cares. But they dont always need to earn games, sometimes there is value in them placeholding if no one else deserves the game.

We say play the kids and people whing that we throw them to the wolves and we get belted, and they whinge thar we recruited older guys who arent getting a game.

We say make the kids earn their spot and learn to dominate at casey first, but people whinge that weare playing the old guys and not giving the kids a go.

Instead of whinging all the time, try and analyse WHY the coaching staff may have made the decisions they have and consider the motivations that way.

Then why does Tom McDonald get a game?

No comparison. You have to see it to believe how bad Davis can be with the ball in his hands. He's a bigger version of Kyle Cheney.

Read my post Stuie as to the reasons why Sellar & Davis are in the squad

But lets go down your avenue of playing Toumpas because you feel he may be better running around against players of his own age above bringing in a player because of possible match ups

I didn't say Toumpas should play, but he has better form than Sellar, which was the argument originally, not match ups etc.

Oh FFS.... You border on troll behaviour sometimes.

I never said Toumpas SHOULD play, the argument was about picking players on form.

Is it school holidays again already?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Rodan been dropped and promoted on alternate weeks every match this season?!

Yes,

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
