Pick the Crowd

Featured Replies

For a comparison on the twilight North got 22,000 against Brisbane (who draw some in Melb) at Etihad 2 weeks ago.

Against GWS (in a game slightly more positive than this) we got 20,000.

Late in the year last year against Gold Coast we got 18,000

So it's fair to say our chances of anywhere above 18,000 are slim, minus I'd say 4,000 for twilight footy makes 14,000 and maybe take a 1,000 off for Mothers day, most people who would want to go the footy could probably have finalised their mothers day stuff by then.

I'd be looking at 13,231 for the real crowd but the AFL might help us out and report it above 15.000 to save face.

17500, I'm being a bit optimistic as well. I say this extremely rarely, but I agree with Caro, the AFL continually shaft Mothers Day where they could put a blockbuster on there and make a thing out of woman in the sport with free hand outs etc but instead decide to put one of the lowest drawing games of the year at the G. Makes and mockery of the day IMO.

Does that mean they are shafting Good Friday as well?

Well they're avoiding Good Friday, you can call that shafting I suppose but that's a moral reason. This one they clearly don't think there's any chance of money being in it, but they aren't even trying.

And -1000 because rain is forecast.

So, 12,231

Is 22,000 too optimistic? After all the great G Ablett Jnr is playing.

Including both teams all their staff and mcg staff 11000

19503 ,

Sunday twilight , mothers day, vs gws

= 12453

Actually against GCFC so I reckon about 12,460. There'll be a few more to come and watch Ablett dominate.

11240 if we are lucky

Another large cheque to the MCC Thats how we go broke again!

But I will be there even though it finishes at a wierd time!

I guess they will close the Bull ring and short staff the other bars

I like that idea - give all the mums a chockie or a flower or something! Or better yet, a voucher for a young strapping footy player to come and wash all those high windows we can't reach!! (ROFLMAO)

15000 max (but I will be there!! maybe 15001!)

11,500 legit but they might boost it a bit to save face. God forbid we're getting thrashed at 3/4 time I can't wait to see how few people are left.

I'll give you $24,000 If we get 24,000 people through the gate.

And I'll gladly take it :-)

The only game I have ever been to specifically to see one player was to see G Ablett Sr. Can't remember who Geelong played, but it was out at Waverley in the mid-1980s. And he was very good that day playing in the midfield.

Forget the haunting of Round 11 — we’ve got this. Melbourne returns to its inner-city fortress for its milestone 100th AFLW match, carrying a formidable 10–2 record at IKON Stadium. Brisbane’s record at the venue is more balanced: 4 wins, 4 losses and a draw.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
