The bungle was not giving Fitzy a crack.

Maybe too valuable at Casey.

Nup, we were never going to win that game... Its better to pick the right game to bring a kid in re development. horses for courses.

imo, we played small as a defensive measure, but will killed the ball.

Love these topics and the posters are the usual members or the Hole in the Head gang, keyboards running hot with negativity, rain clouds hovering

Jones is a differnt type of player, but bloody good on him for doing so well

He was a mature age recruit at North, drafted for a purpose which then didn't eventuate, why was he underdone, proof.

My previous post, nice to see CFB come back with his usual incisive garbage, I await the day when he will actually post something that a. is related to the topic b. not having a go at somebody...but then again I may be in for a long wait

Rodan doesn't have to be in the AFL side to influence, I watched the Casey game and he was one who help drag Casey back into the game in the last qtr, to just fall short

Rodan can be having a positive impact on the club with his positive personality, his teaching and his work ethic at training without necessarily being in the senior side every week. He cost pick 88.

He wouldn't have been picked if he was underdone, what reports, I watched him complete most sessions that I attened throught the preseason, which was at least 8

His first session at the club came in skin folds over and well down in the time trials. We can go on about this but the fact is he better pull his finger out, he has given us nothing and that you can't argue with (well you probably could).

Your right mate.

We all knew going into the game we had no forward line.

Fitzpatrick had 7 goals in 2 games

And we invested heavy in Pederson so why not play him.

Once again shocking coaching. Even having Fitz and Pederson we prob would of lost by the same, but for god sake we need structure.

I am happy enough with the logic behind not playing Fitzpatrick yet, even though it hurts to not have a tall target. It would suck if he came in, kicked a few and then broke down again. We certainly don't want his first game of the year to be against a team that thrashes us on a regular basis. I would say that next week is a good opportunity to give him a run against slightly weaker opposition (especially without Warnock in their back line). If not, then they may wind up shelving him until later on when we face GWS again.

I thought you were in agreement with the other posters who said he had nothing to offer, so he has offered exactly that, how do you know the above by the way? about the skin folds and time trials?

We could have picked up Hannath instead of one of the 4 &/or upgraded Magner to give Jones a hand. Who would you prefer Hannath or Pederson/Rodan/Gillies?

Magner isn't going anywhere and Hannath is an unknown quantity.

I was wondering whether you were trying to emaulate your namesake with the brevity, but now I realise you have absolutely nothing to offer, I assume this will leave you sniggering behind your keyboard

Getting back on topic, would assume the mail about Hannath did not include Fremantle seriously considering him, they hadn't invited him over and not spoken to him a lot, hence I think the Club thought they would rookie him

ash how would Fitzy &/or pederson have helped us re butchering the ball under pressure thru our midzone? It wasn't the lack of forwards that was the big problem, it was not being a settled lineup & lacking the composure that comes thru this.

the Carlton team, after seeing how things have shaped as of Rnd 5, were always going to be way to slick for us, so instead of being run off our feet by mid 3rd term & another 16 goal thumping, I would say the selectors opted for Plenty of run in the lineup.

we got thru, but we didn't manage to keep our Cool & keep our ball.... we coughed & spluttered along like an unconfident side does against a more mature & classy team.

If the blue sky structure-wise is to have two tall forwards in Clark and Dawes there as our best players, then why not foster that system with our younger players like Fitz when C & D are unavailable?

I appreciate it's a lot more complex than what I put forward but seriously when is Fitz going to get another chance to show his wares?

Fitzy is only 3 games into his season, I assume he will be rewarded at some stage, but I prefer this way, you don't want to bouncing backwards and forwards, although he and Chris Dawes did work well at the weekend

Pederson, Rodan and Gillies are still new to a club that is playing crap football, they have not shown what they can do, but the same can be said for most of the team. Some time with Casey may help bring them along. I agree we were lacking a tall against the blues, we had no one to contest in the air. Everyone has noticed Jack has been slow and getting slower, he must be rested or dropped back to Casey, its a tough decisions but if the coaches cannot make a hard decision then they are making a further mockery of MFC aspiring to be the hardest team to play against (without falling over laughing).

But this IS the point. My opening comments wre at least partly based upon comments by Blues' supporters, including a couple of ex players. If defenders or mids know they can't kick forward to a target, poor decisions follow. They were watching, for example, Howes who had a dreadful day against much bigger opponents. Unless it is wet a forward line without talls is manner from heaven for defenders. One other point. Why not play Pederson and see if as a lone forward, he has anything to offer. Structure maintained, the other forwards having someone to crumb under.

Didn't we give Gysberts for Pederson?

Once again I know we did not lose because player x dint play and so on, but having Pederson and Fitz who I might add was in good form helps straighten us up and gives us a contest when the ball actually did go in the 50. Having Spencer/Gawn as the key forward who Jamison and Henderson eaisly run off did not help.

Whereas Gillies, Rodan and Pederson are, Magner would have been much better for us than any of these three and Hannath is getting a game at a club that is winning them.

Pre season we gave away a high first round pick for Cam Pederson.

We gave away a high pick from years earlier that had depreciated to almost zero.. not even close to the same thing.

Some people need to realise we have a whole group of professional coaches that are privy to a hell of a lot more than you or I know. You would think it reasonable just to have a tiny bit of faith and trust in them to pick the side they want to pick each week, wouldn't you? No that it matters, because no matter what they do there will be a bloom of spineless jellyfish on this board to pot them for it.

We have clearly gotten far better then we were 4 weeks ago. At the moment we are capable of playing a couple of good quarters per week but fading out in other parts badly. We are potentially not far away at all from the wheel turning. They are still a very, very young group and are just getting used to each other and the coach. Nathan Jones is still just 25 but has the stature of a 30 year old veteran at our club. There is a heap of talent that is miles from reaching its ceiling on this list. Instead of shirting all over everything they are trying to do can we PLEASE show a little SUPPORT for once

I for one expect a massive victory this weekend which will give them a nice little boost

I guess the one thing in Pedo's favour as far as the trade goes is that Gys hasn't played a game for NMFC. That puts us marginally ahead in that our guy has played a few poor games at least. I still think we paid too much, especially since we downgraded in a pick swap as well. Given the relative merits of the players and their careers to date I would have said Gys had more currency and that they should be giving us a low pick as a sweetener.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe
