Is it time to Re-Brand?

There is nothing wrong with our Brand.

Just get the right people to run it.

I like the emblem CS left us.

Forget the Blazers.

Clearly you are a communist .

Advertising and PR guys love a re-brand.

It gives meaning to their lives.

Your "leave it alone"attitude creates unemployment amongst some of societies most creatively redundant social climbers.

Shame on You.

I would actually like to see a demon of some variety in our logo. I liked the Chinese Demon of the 80's and the demon logo we had from 95 to 2007. Put some sort of demon back in our logo and it would make me happy.

Admittedly I associate the current logo with the last few years. To me it just looks like soulless, corporate [censored]. My view might change once I can attach it to something positive, like winning games of footy.

I'm no expert but I am currently nearly finished my study in design and branding, and from my point of view our brand identity is a bit of a jumbled mess. However, being footy 99% of our image is HOW we play, the other stuff is needed and important, but winning games and having stars is what will get us new generation supporters IMO.

Exactly - how we play is what matters. Hell, Hawthorn play in that gawd awful wee and poo colored jumper, but they play with passion and they play with pride and do OK.

When did our guys last play with passion and / or pride, despite our far more inspiring colour scheme??

No offence to those arguing the pros and cons of our emblem but we need to stop worrying about superficial things like that and realise that, as Toby from the West Wing responded about the unpopularity of the US in the Mid East concerning terrorism:

Well clubs don't have much room to move in terms of their 'brand': Their colours, guernseys, nicknames and songs are set in stone and supporters would be horrified if you tried to change any of it.

How people perceive a club is really determined by their actions on the field. A business can play the game of smoke a mirrors, but a footy club is exposed every week and has nowhere to hide.

8 years ago, Geelong seemed like an incredibly boring club to me. Their blue and white hoops were a symbol of blandness, now it's a symbol of dominance and I watch all their games with interest.

Re-branding would only be relevant in order to attract new supporters to the club, but the fact is, no one will want to support a club playing the way Melbourne is at the moment.

(...for what it's worth, I think Melbourne have the best nickname, guernsey and logo in the AFL.)

Re-branding is one of many steps that need to be taken to get us back to the position of a force in football, whilst I agree that winning will make most things better, we can't look at our on-field performance as the solution to everything. I believe that one reason why Collingwood have been able to develop so much talent over the last decade despite having few high draft picks is because of their facilities and coaches which are only possible because of their financial strength. Get that right, and sooner rather than later, the on-field performance will improve.

Like most posters, I agree that the logo needs to be changed and I'd like to see the club go back to something similar such as the 95-07 logo that Colin alluded to. However, I'd like us to start looking towards world's best practice across sporting competitions throughout the world. Moves such as making players wear suits when travelling with the team might instil a little more discipline and respect. Generally, clubs that have done well have been more creative, we need lots of good ideas, no idea should be held back because it is too crazy. Based on where we are at the moment, we don't have much to lose, why not try for something a bit different.

The problem is not the effing logo, whether we're toffs or bogans (I love the SC and refuse to surrender it to bogans). Our brand is dominant if we win games of footy. I dream of the day 50,000 chant (a'la Marshal) WE ARE MELBOURNE.

Step 1: stand united.

Step 2: give the coach the season to see if he can get the players going as a team (tackles, smothers, shepherds).

Step 3: build strong, quick fix's never work.

Step 4: fixing our culture requires a no d!<£ head policy, that does not mean toffs.

Anyone who is serious about changing the coach, go to training and see for yourself if the players are getting it or not, spare me your crap opinions on message boards.

.. I neglected to mention, its a lot better to have a list of aggressive players, where the tough firebrand coach, has to teach the players discipline, to reign in their over exuberance & aggression, than to have to try to 'invent it', into passive players.

.. we seem to be on the way towards the harder brand, recruiting types like Hogan & Viney & no doubt others.

but lets Not, "round them off"

.

I'd like a balanced list. I would prefer a few more aggressive guys, but you also need to balance it out with level headed types. You still do need cool heads to help with direction, on the field and off it. Both types need to be hard at it though.

How about a new logo that tries to cram seven different concepts into one making it look ridiculous. Then we could get all our players to wear a blazer from a private school. And then we could just get ex players to run the club and shebang, we'd be back in business. Oh wait we tried all that didn't we.

Love your work roost had to smile!

I agree, but we always seem to be so cool, we would put out the fires of hell with our collective smiles. We are demons because Checker Hughes saw the need to change from the MCC culture.

when they got rid of Smithy, they took back the MCC culture & it dominates the Footy club to this day. We need to establish our base away from the shadows of the MCC & learn to flourish in the Warmth of the Sun & the bright glow of the Full Moon.

Our home will still be the 'G', but we will become Demons. & our leaders will be of the Demon culture instead of the MCC styled culture that infects our every move.

passivity needs to be put to rest.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
