Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's damning that the Dees lost the disposal count by 70, but also lost the tackle count by 22. Five of the top 6 tacklers on the ground were eagles - Selwood had 12 alone.

Surprisingly, Melbournes top tackler was Jamar with 6. He also convincingly won the hit out count (not sure how many were to advantage, though). He was absolutely rubbish around the ground though - 5 disposals for Jamar, while Cox racked up 24 and 3.2. That kind of trouncing puts a side at a huge disadvantage these days. It's as if the opposition have an extra player on the field in open play.

Jamar has never been able to run with mobile ruckmen like Jolly and Cox and they routinely rip us a new one. At least Spencer and Gawn can run with them.

Go back and look at Clarkson's, Hardwick's and Ratten's results in their first couple of years.

Sacking the coach now would be utterly ridiculous. Where would that get us??

Tell me what the average losing margin was for those guys in their 2nd year....

Neeld's is 107 points so far.

Hawks improved from 14th to 11th in Clarksons' second year.

Richmond went from 15th to 12th in Hardwick's second year.

Carlton went from 11th to 7th in Ratten's second year.

What was your point again?

Lost count of Melbourne players ball watching while their opponent gut ran to provide an option.

Our players simply don't work hard enough when they aren't directly involved in play.

This is why they can't maintain pressure when they try man on man, they don't understand the concept of running off the ball.

First half was the result of hard work, second half was a return to normal programming.

Please no more Jamar, we need to move on.

Very worrying second half.

The bottom line is that we have at least 5 (probably more) players running around that are just not up to AFL-standard.

Mark Jamar should have his contract torn up and be shown the door. Fed up with him. Cox is a superstar but the amount of times he was in a paddock forward of the centre was ludicrous.

Players today who earnt their stripes, or went up in my estimations as AFL players were Tapscott, M. Jones, Terlich.

Players who I think we need to stop kidding ourselves over, and realise are probably not AFL-standard anymore (or perhaps never were): Byrnes, Garland, Sellar

Really? My god. Terlich looks lost out there and makes some horrible decisions. He was only playing his second game, but not great signs. Jones got a bit of the ball, but I still cannot wipe that image of him walking, unaccountable on the wing, while Jack Viney desperately chased two Eagles.

Tapscott got a bit of the ball, but what the heck is with his overhead marking? For a bloke that has shoulders the size of tree trunks, it's all about confidence, technique and ability. I really want Tappy to succeed, but he has to offer more. Today was probably his best game in MFC colours and that's saying something.

No-one wants to sack a coach anytime, let alone early in a season, but MN has to go - the players put in hard today (at least in the first half), so it isn't their fault in that sense (and the ones he chose didn't do very well IMO). The players looked totally lost when it came to decision making, and in particular when it came to deciding the quickest and easiest way to goal - that's a part of coaching - MN and NC to go asap!

Today showed we can do it. We can match other better teams in contested footy. So - Neeld can coach and we can play. For 2 quarters anyway.

We also showed that we are mentally weak. When a team gets a run-on against us, we cannot stem the flow.

WE continue to show that our structure/positioning through the middle of the ground is the worst in the AFL. Watson and Heppel last week. Kerr, Priddis, Gaff etc... this week were playing 3 verses 1 on multiple occasions.

Pedersen, Sellar - what can I say? They remind of Richmond's back line about 5 years ago. Give Davis, Fitzy a go.

Jamar. How far has this bloke fallen?

N Jones, M Jones, Terlich (kicking excepted) were good toady

Trengove, Sylvia, Tapscott, got in and had a go.

Bail and Evans showed some grunt and run.

I agree, but who would you lay the blame with here? Has to be Neeld and Royal or merely Neeld. In other words, Neeld can't coach.

How were Pederson & Sellar today and did either of them play in defence?

I thought Sellar did his job down back, while Pederson tried hard, but was generally ineffectual.

'Melbourne fans again booed their team at three-quarter time.'

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/eagles-inflict-more-misery-on-lowly-demons-20130413-2hs7l.html

No we didn't. I didn't hear much, but I suspect it was directed at the umpiring, which for the third quarter was heavily in West Coast's favour (the holding the ball against Clark was awful, the holding the man against Garland was worse).

Whoever wrote this garbage can GAGF.

Completely correct. No booing of the team at all

They didn't have seven years of bad recruiting. Even in Richmonds case, they had a stock of quality players before Hardwick turned up.

Anyone want to kill (sorry can't say that), shoot in the leg (probably not allowed), direct bad energy towards Ashton hams.

What a disgrace of a footballer.

West coast should be ashamed of his leg dropping rubbish. At least when rivers did it to him he let him know about it.

Do you seriously think these two could do a better job with this list?

Who had more talent and better prospects in pre season of 2012 and 2013 seasons? Us both times and both clubs have trounced us.

The sad thing in all this is that if we had another 2-3 mids along with Jones and Viney, we would be good.

Our forward line is good and our back line is good too despite what is going on. You cant expect the backline to be performing when the bloody pill is in there half for 80% of the game.

First half I was actually enjoying watching the boys for the first time in a long time. Second half it was back to normal unfortunately.

It's sad that we have to hang our hat on Matt Jones and Terilich being good finds, they are average at best.

We tried to match the Weagles and did for two quarters, but once the adrenaline runs out it gets back to a talented side against an untalented side, it's all over, which it was.

We don't have the cattle and once again we have drafted poorly, we have [censored] midfield and did nothing about it, instead we've picked up several players that were deemed to be superfluous by their existing clubs, they have actually weakened our list not improved it. When someone said Neeld hadn't made our list worse, well you are wrong he has.

There should not be that much difference between the top and bottom sides in the competition, but there is and it's scary; history has shown that a change from a poor coach to a good coach can make a big difference. Eade/Roos, Schimmelbusch/Pagan, Walls/Matthews etc.etc. I'm not saying we have a list like theirs but it can't be as bad as it seems now, surely.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
