Blease is the my biggest disapointment of the year. I was really thought he would come on in leaps and bounds this year.

He has stagnated.

I mean geez its the worst melbourne team for a long time and he cant get a game.

In some ways I feel we are mainly judging him off one game. The ankle injury obvious set him back for the start of the year, he wasn't ready and we rightly didn't stick by him. But the Brisbane game was a huge concern.

Offered nothing defensively and then was just a rushed mess with the ball.

It's a shame it has to happen but a run at Casey is in his best interest. After that if we can just find enough form for him to play deep it will be great

It's really mind boggling with Bleasy. What the hell is Neeld doing with this group of players?

I'm absolutely lost with regards to Nicholson getting a game ahead of Blease

Honestly, I love Blease as a player, but Nicho plays small defence, where Blease is a HFF/Wingman. So nicho got ahead on his role in the team.

This kid is yet another being destroyed by Neeld and his total lack of being able to adjust his style and coaching for individuals.

Just tell this kid he's got 10 straight games and tell him to just play his natural game. Let him take it on, use his pace, break the lines & take shots for goal 60m out on the run. Give the kid confidence and stop stuffing with his head.

Everyone's been sucked into Neeld's obsession of physical conditioning and training standards and lost focus on game day and kicking bloody goals.

If this is your feeling, how about watching this interview with Blease after the Round 20 loss to the saints last year. He is well aware of the things he needs to work on and gives credit to Misson and others for helping with his work on fitness:

That's all well and good but why is that he can not force his way into a side as deplorable as the dees? He was playing career best footy at the time of that interview and was easily in our best 22 and he can't get a game now? His form at Casey doesn't warrant it and i'm not blaming Neeld but what is going on?

Its interesting with Misson. I have heard nothing but positives from players about him and i suspect that at the least he has them on side. I hope stays when the clean out of coaches happens. Perhaps he should coach.

Agreed. Neeld's failure as a coach perfectly summed up.

I have been told he had been a "naughty boy" and so was spending penance in the VFL. Form has been good there. Expect him back next week

Would love to see Blease play the forward pocket. He's an attacking machine. He'd spend his time in the the forward 50 up to around forward flank, he shouldn't have any problems with his current fitness level

What are his misdemeanours?

Not so sure mate, just know he's on the outer.

Will try find out why

Would be nice to know. Apparently the club kept it hush hush and out of the media

I would prefer to think that he is deoing penance for something rather than they think he isn't good enough?

I remember the 5 goal haul against the saints last year and thought gee this bloke is going to be a very nice bit of icing on the cake when our team finally gets it's crap together, now he doesn't even look a shadow of that player.

Also was injured pre-season

Please, please, please give him 5-8 games in a row and let him run. Look at Tapscott now he has a few games in a row. We need outside runners - those who can break the lines and we only have him and Evans. Bail too but he s also an in-and-under player. Blease is a gun and should be let loose, not held back at Casey.

Agree we need his skill set in the team but watching Casey today what is going on with his kicking? Blease looked beautifully balanced with the ball today only to repeatedly deliver it straight onto the chest of an opposition player. His kicking action looks brilliant but his aim is appalling.

He's never displayed any ounce of decision making ability. Yes he's balanced and can kick but he just can't think and run at the same time.

Maybe we might trick another team in to wanting him and trade him at the end of the year.

Agree his finishing let him down a little but he wasn't helped coming off the HB and wing in the 2nd and last quarters, into a wind, with some of the Casey forwards playing from behind and some letting their opponents doing the leading up. Go figure

I think this is the point with Blease. As far as icing on the cake goes, he'd probably be fantastic, but at the moment we don't have anything resembling a cake, and the cake is what we need.

He's one of quite a few on our list who will look a million dollars in a good team, but in a bad team he will look like a pile of sludge. He needs the cake to be solid in order to show his qualities as the icing.

Perhaps one of the problems with our list overall is too much icing and not enough cake.

Are we talking footy or Masterchef?

I think there are still a few on the list who could best be described as dog scraps.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
