GAME DAY - ROUND 1, 2013

Viney is the only positive.

We have so many stupid, stupid footballers.

That is under selling our list a bit, I'd be happy to have stupid footballers at the moment, I don't know what I'd call these blokes we got.

"Port benefitting from Watts in defence, he is doing nothing" direct from the radio.

" he has to man up when they are coming into the fwd 50"

Hard to see where the fix is going to come from. Viney and jones can't do all the midfield work, Clark can't do all the forward work. I

Luke tapscott that was a stupid effort to try and kick the freak goal should have let the ball run over the line ffs so many dumb footballers!

Quarter time stats.

Clearances 13-6. Of these 11-1 in 'stoppages', as opposed to 2-5 in our favour from the centre.

Disposals 88-72 (clearly improved in this area and got our hands on the ball in the later part of that quarter)

Tackles 16-12

We've had 35 kicks, 37 handballs, they've had 53 kicks and 35 handballs.

All I can say is thank god for beer we will get spanked today look like chooks with there heads chopped off

So whose the touted #1 draft pick this year?

Absolutely woeful, no pressure on port, the few poor tackles we managed to do usually lead to a port free for high contact. I dont know if its their zone defense or inability to man up but port if finding it remarkably easy to rebound from our stuff ups.

Clark and Viney the only two working their butts off.

It's just too easy for Port ATM - bypassing our midfield too easily. Can't hang anything on Watts, he's not been too bad. Positives: Viney, Howe, Clarke. We're getting better at centre clearances. Here we go for 2Q...

I don't even rate Dawes, but he will help our structure alone ten fold.

Clarke kicked two goals in succession and they take him off!
Then Howe bombed it in and we had no-one, Port taken it down the other end and goaled, bad coaching move to take him off.

Dawes will help alot, if Sellar can't hold onto marks he is useless.

All I can say is thank god for beer we will get spanked today look like chooks with there heads chopped off

That's disrespectful to chooks. We a mile off the second worst team I've seen this round.

Viney 8 disposals in his first q of afl football.

So far, Viney aside, we sound like Melbourne of 2012. Same issues - no structure, no clearance work, no pressure, no hardness, not enough inside 50s.

May the 2nd Quarter improve...PLEASE!!!!

Buuuppp booowww under 30 seconds goal Port....

Gillies... shocker...

My mate is at the game sms'd me the following:

'Slow, unorganised, reactionary so far'

We're continually trying to free Watts up as a loose man in defence. 3AW is very critical of this. Watts isn't giving us anything, and in turn, they've scored 7 goals, so it's clearly not working. What it's doing is confusing our defenders and causing others to mop up after Watts who isn't manning up on anyone.

Robert Walls - our fitness isnt up to scratch. A worrying comment for second quarter round 1

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
