Gary Ablett Jnr

As footy fans, let's all savour every minute left of this guy's career because he's every bit as good as the greatest players in the game's history. Bunton, Barrassi, Whitten, Matthews, Carey, Skilton. He's that echelon. Best of the best. Legend of the game.

Couldn't agree more...but I'd have his dad in that list as well.

He's been the best in the game for a few years now and has booked his spot as a legend of the game when he finishes up. If anyone hasn't seen him play in the flesh get along to a game, what you don't see on the TV is his work rate and what he does off the ball.

As he says no one can do what his dad did, but I think he (Gary Jnr) is the better player. His record is outstanding and there's still more to come.

he's knocking right on that door.

You forgot someone in your list: GAblett Snr

not to mention Lockett, Silvani Jnr, Flower, did I forget any?

... that spin away from the opponent & goal was very GAblett Snr like, but Snr did it all the time. Jnr is a much better midfielder than his dad & has better endurance.

Jnr is one of the best midfielders of all time. Still got a small way to go to catch his dad.

Will Jnr end up a forward towards the end of his career? He is so balanced and so like his dad was when he did that spin and goal.
A true master class tonight to single handedly pull them up to beat the Saints...

He'd kick 100+ goals if left at FF for an entire season. No doubt in my mind.

G Ablett's game tonight deserved a thread.

I still think Snr was the better player (just)

Only because he could play any position on the ground with authority.

But Jnr is smaller build so i don't hold it against him!!

Is there a father-son pairing to rival them in any other sport in the world do you think (past or present)?

I don't claim to know anything about NASCAR, but Dale Earnhardt Sr and Jr were both iconic in their sport, I believe. If you consider NASCAR a sport.

In Australia it's no contest.

There would be.

Chavez Snr/Jr in the boxing is one.

Mayweather Snr/Jr

But not to extent where both are absolutely elite, top of the tree.

In Chavez case, his old man was, son not... In Mayweathers, jr is - snr wasn't.

There would be father son elites in sport, but I don't know about elite to the point where both are dualing for best ever status.

Archie Manning and Peyton/Eli.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
