but having a father/son like the ablett's who are both legends of the game is certainly very rare. theres several examples of father/son playing top level sport but cant think of many where both have been absolutely heads and shoulders above all others of their generation

his strength in his legs hips & core, he could play til 33 + down forward.

Where will he finish up I wonder. The Demons would be nice.

Is there a father-son pairing to rival them in any other sport in the world do you think (past or present)?

Kieren Jack and his dad, and that's over two sports

Absolutely love Kieren Jack - but Gary Ablett he ain't.

Best and most creative midfielder in my lifetime.

Couldn't agree more...but I'd have his dad in that list as well.

Until last night I always thought Gary Snr was the more freakish player, while his son the more well-rounded, but some of last night's magic reminded me very much of his father.

Beautiful to watch.

I thought he was selfish. All those possessions and kicking 4 goals to himself. Winning the game off his boot... Give someone else a turn.

All jokes aside, it was just jaw dropping to watch that display. Even when every other player looked spent, he looked like he could school them for a fifth quarter.

Sam Gilbert is meant to be some freak rugby upbringing tackler, yet Gaz brushed him off like he was nuttin'.

He killed my multibet, yet it was still a joy to watch.

I'm not going to lie. I loved his performance even more considering I tipped the Suns and had Gary Ablett as my SC Captain.

Suns' big signing = Gary Ablett Jnr.

GWS' big signing = Tom Scully.

Not exactly equivalent players - similar coin though.

Unbelievable.

Agree. Scully would be on the same amount as Gaz but I know who is more exciting. Ablett is a captain who leads perfectly. Scully is vc and no where near as good as leader.

I reckon after 2015, we'd be better served with an elite player of about 25 - 26 Yrs of age.

To me, poetic justice would have GAjnr return to sleepy hollow. I would not like to see future Abletts of young Gaz, go to the Suns.

he's knocking right on that door.

You forgot someone in your list: GAblett Snr

not to mention Lockett, Silvani Jnr, Flower, did I forget any?

... that spin away from the opponent & goal was very GAblett Snr like, but Snr did it all the time. Jnr is a much better midfielder than his dad & has better endurance.

Jnr is one of the best midfielders of all time. Still got a small way to go to catch his dad.

I, did... Bruce Doull for one...

Gold coast were exciting last night, fit and structured, they look so far ahead of us last night.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
