Foxtel Deal

What a joke of a flier I got in the mail for a Melbourne FC foxtel pack. "The Demons need your cheer" "Get every game of the H&A season live and we'll smash the comp this year"

1. Yeah, they need my cheer so I'm actually going to the games, not wasting my money on foxtel.

2. The second part is a white lie, and it's a joke the club let that be sent out to members. Hopefully they accept refunds at the end of the season for misleading people.

I think it's a pretty big mistake by the club endorsing Foxtel to paid members who plan on attending all or most games in Melbourne. We already get small enough crowds. Just seems to me like they're saying "It's ok to cheer from your couch". I'm not dumb enough to fall for this. Plus, our away games against Brisbane,Adelaide and GWS are on Channel 7, so there's not much benefit. (and we play 12 of our first 14 at the G)

Agreed biggestred. I'm sure the AFL sells member info to Foxtel for nothing if they agree to keep paying a billion for the TV rights.

Having said that I qualify as a tragic. I go to all Victorian games and record every game on foxtel. It's surprising how much worse we looked the second time round in 2012.

I think that most MFC supporters that get the Foxtel package, like myself, do so not because they want to watch our MCG games at home, but rather, so they can see our interstate matches that are rarely broadcast on free to air.

As for the cheesy rhyme about cheer and smashing the comp this year, I'd bet that the same line is used for all clubs. Just an 'insert club name here' thing.

Didn't know where to put this, so I'll put it here.

Why do we not have any membership ads? It's starting to annoy me.

Either it's because we're poor as hell, or it's because we reckon it is just a waste of money. I'm betting on the first option.

There is no ROI for us.

We do the maths every few years apparently, and call-ins, match day, and push calling just are not affected by TV ads.

FYI,

An idiot friend of mine signed up my dearly departed hound to Hawthorn FC 10 years ago, the scoundrel!

My dog received the offer in the mail a couple of weeks with Hawthorn (having been a member for 1 year, ten years ago).

I didn't get one though.

Edit: The Hawthorn ad's different = 'Looking to go 1 better'

For those interested, my dog was a true blue demon and HFC mail was returned to sender with a couple of charming words added.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
