Bugger him. He chose to leave for a team that will eventually be easily able to replace him. He could have stayed and developed his game rather than being a player who is supposedly more developed than the younger players at GWS therefore possibly gets less time put into him as he is considered a senior player. I hope he looks back and realises he made a silly decision to leave and learns from it because he was a young kid who had millions of dollars flashed in front of him and I don't give a crap what he says .. he left for the money.

To think Gary Lyon when asked to comment on him said, "one word, Judd". I could never understand how he could make that call at the time and still don't for the reasons you've pointed out.

All I can say is that Garry's comment was very prescient. When people think of Judd, what do they think of?

The answer is a football pay packet of in excess of $1 million annually and that is precisely what young Tom Scully is taking home for producing those third rate efforts for Kevin Sheedy. It makes me feel good every time I think about it.

And one of these days, I hope and dream that the $½ million compensation we recently had to pay back to the AFL for going after him a little too hard for their liking (and that of the barracudas in the media) will pay us handsome dividends.

At last count, we were able to secure Mitch Clark (who we couldn't have afforded if we had to fork out the 20 pieces and more of silver necessary to have kept Voldemort) and the compo allowed us to get our hands on Chris Dawes, Jesse Hogan and Dom Barry as well as putting us in a position to collect both Jimmy Toumpas and Jack Viney whereas we might otherwise have secured only one of them.

All that for a player who plays so outside that he might as well have been sitting watching the game with me in my living room last night.

I think that you only have to read Jim Stynes book to enlighten yourself of the character of both men. It was a classic LOSE-WIN situation when Scully went after the $.

Haha you even find a way to bag MFC when you're actually bagging an opposition team member...

It wasn't hard.,

His tackling was excellent last night, but the one thing he wasn't doing that he's not really done since his first year at the Dees is run to each contest with real intention to impact upon it - he just sort of mooches around the outside of the pack these days, rather than going and getting the ball.

The contrast between him and Greene is extreme.

Whether its instructions from GWS to be more of an outside player who knows, but when Greene is the only player who can get the ball for them in a pack they really need Scully to be the inside-outside player he promised to be.

2013 looms as a big year for him. He needs to show a lot more.

No he doesn't, he still gets his million a year, which is probably all he cares about.

He did get 8 tackles in the match, the most in the match.

I didn't notice that, i only read that he only got two touches in the first half!

Granted that tackling is a very important part of the game but with someone who is playing Scully's role, it's little wonder he manages so many tackles. I'd prefer my mids to be first to the ball where they can cause more damage to the opposition.

I reckon he's injured.

He went really hard last year.

Knee? Oh - Oh!

Why does he need to go hard?

$6 million

Vice Captain...he has achieved all this doing bugger all.

Why change???

Have never blamed T$ for taking the money. Only the way he lied to us the club. Scummy behaviour.

No class.

where is the incentive for T$ to try? He's guaranteed top dollars for 6 years whether he tries or not

most people would still be motivated by pride, gratefulness and loyalty, but in his case we all know about that

Greene was getting tagged last night. They left Scully alone.

Why wouldn't you, Greene is their best player, Scully is just a more expensive version of Jordie McKenzie.

still reckon he'll end up playing at tigerland.

What with GWS paying $600k per year of his $1m contract.

I could be wrong, but wasn't TS the highest paid player in the league last year (due to front-ending his contract)?

2nd he was after a GC player

dont forget the 600k for his dad too over those 6 years

I'm sure Fat Phill works very hard for his wages.

He's just big boned.

I posted a while ago that it was very possible given the GWS talent, that he might struggle to make their team, if their best players were available. I haven't changed my opinion.

Of course, with his huge salary, like Folau, he will continue to get games.

Yeah im sure in 2 yrs time when GWS are flying he wont make there best 22.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
