Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Supercoach Preview - Demons

I always make the mistake of picking too many Dees in my Supercoach team... this year I think the only ones I'll go for are Watts, Jones and Viney (everyone will have him i their side). I refuse to pick Sylvia again, and I don't think Magner will be worth his price tag.

Which Dees players (if any) are others picking?

Viney's a lock, Terlich is also a strong possibility since Staker is injured.

Tempted by Grimes, Watts and Kent although I probably won't end up with any in SC. Grimes is definitely in DT.

Pedo is too expensive :(

Toss up between Byrnes and Varcoe. Not sure who I'm getting there.

I wouldn't write Sylvia off just yet... he averaged 98 in his last 11 games last year after recovering from that spinal injury. At $433K, he's pretty good value.

Also thinking of taking a punt on Jack Watts. Finally looks to have a set role in the team and was impressive in the opening NAB games. Bit of a risk given there are plenty of other good options around his price, but Watts has a big upside and is a DPP.

Apart from that, Terlich, Viney and Byrnes are the bargains.

I wouldn't risk Sylvia in SC.

I think he's a possibility in DT because you get 2 trades a week. If he's sucking it up you can just swap him out. SC has 30 trades and even though it's more than last year I wouldn't want to burn any.

He's the perennial tease in fantasy and the real game.

In the real game, absolutely. But in SC, his season averages are pretty solid.

2009 90.5
2010 88.0
2011 96.3
2012 81.0 (98 from rd 13-23)
I agree, you're never really sure what you're going to get from him, but you won't find much better value among the mid-pricers.

Yeah, but it's such an awkward price point. Plus he's never played a full season:

Year Games Average

2005 16 56.9

2006 15 60.5

2007 16 63.1

2008 18 75.5

2009 17 90.5

2010 15 88.0

2011 19 96.3

2012 17 81.0

Just too much of a risk for me. I understand why others will take him though. He has the potential to be a top 10 forward.

I'd go with Mark LeCras. Similar output, more reliable, $60k less.

Year Games Average

2005 2 29.5

2006 3 93.7

2007 17 61.8

2008 11 59.5

2009 21 84.4

2010 21 82.2

2011 19 86.3

Viney is a lock-in.

Blease at his price is a must - pity about his injury but he will fly this year.

I wasn't considering Kent or Evans but NAB cup form makes both likely candidates to start, earn some dollars and sell them by round 4 or 5.

Don't know about Blease, it seems he'll play forward more rather than wing/midfield this year, so i dont think he'll improve his scores much.

Watts, Viney and Sylvia for me.

Yeah if the forwards weren't such a headache this year, I probably wouldn't be considering Sylvia, but he's a good price so I'll take the punt.

I was hoping to see more of him in the pre-season, because if he was played more in the midfield I would have found a place for him. As it is, at $292K he's just too expensive. Only averaged 54 last year.

Sorry guys, I think that I will leave the SuperCoach selections up to Neeld and just watch the main game, without hypotheticals.

OK then. Do you mind if we indulge in some harmless speculation? Wouldn't it have been easier to groan into your computer rather than type into a forum on hypotheticals that you don't want to participate in hypotheticals?

Viney is a lock.

Terlich and Kent are great bets on the bench. I've gone with Watts as well.

I was hoping to get away with Luenburger and Vardy in the ruck so I could have Abblet Swan Cotchin and Dangerfield in the middle but Vardy is a no go for round one so dunno know

Wouldn't touch Vardy. Leuy looks to be the goods if he's fit round 1, could be a massive steal.

You need at least one premium ruck though, the Vardy/Leuy combo would be dangerous to start unless one was benched. If you already have a premo ruck, downgrade Vardy to Daw/Currie/Witts and use the cash on one of those midfielders :)

As good a prospect as Kent is, I think there are too many mid rookies ahead of him atm. Crouch, O'Meara, Viney, Wines, Mitchell (if elevated) to name a few.

I already have Viney crouch omera Mitchell lol. Gone with abblet swan Cotchin dangerfield moloney omera. Viney crouch Mitchell and Kent in the middle. But will have to downgrade a premium to gaff and get Goldstein instead of vardy I think

i've only gone with Watts and Viney in my team this year. i did have terlich, pedersen and dawes/brynes at one point but i have made 100's of changes since then! still might change varcoe for Brynes again though.

I've got 4 Dees players this year. Viney (duh), Watts, Grimes, and Howe.

Viney is obvious.

Watts I really think will have a massive year, saw imagine at the intraclub and watched a bit of NAB round 1 and he looks very confident.

Grimes I wasn't going to have in and then I saw he averaged 91 and that was after a slow first half of the year. Injury free he's a ball magnet.

Howe's an interesting one. I'll admit I've probably selected him because I enjoy watching him play, but he's also getting a bigger tank and looks like he's been made into a goal scoring mid. We all know Neeld loves him so I'll back him for a good year.

I'm trying to decide on a defender around the 350,000 mark, any ideas?

Not quite on topic, but did anyone else note the odds on Jack Watts for most points by a Melbourne player? Could be worth a shot at 6.00. A few times last year he showed he can do it. All he needs is to do that more often.

I thought that too.. Very good odds.. This is total points yeah? Because missing 1 game can hurt you.. I have a feeling it will be a good year for him playing behind the ball..

Well it's always a bit of a gamble in that price range...

At $297K, Bock is probably the best value, but I think he's going to miss the first few rounds of the year. Thornton is $339K and should do well at GWS. Both are DPP.

There's also a few decent mature agers worth considering this year (Goodes, Stevenson, Terlich, Pittard), so you could always play one of them and use the cash to upgrade one of your other players.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
