Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

yes, on 3aw, they were talking about the afl possibly making an exception to allow hogan to be allowed on our last primary list lodgement in march. Apparently, if the case was taken to court, the afl would lose. An exemption was made for bate back in the day because he was 28 days too young. The afl allowed him to make the grade due to his physical maturity.

Here's hoping hogan plays round1.

The MFC should at least lobby the afl for an exemption.

I actually think Hogan will develop better within the VFL system than throwing him in the AFL Deep end

Neeld IMO has made a common sense approach in regards to younger players as soon as he walked in the door

We all know we are not premiership contenders and waiting 22 games might be strategically the best decision for player, coach and club

No they shouldn't.

And Bate was exempted pre-being drafted.

Just let the kid follow the system that the three other boys followed and get him to start strong in 2014.

Couldn't agree more. Let him have 2 full pre seasons and a year of VFL before his first AFL game. Couldn't think of better perpetration. Hold him back make him hungry make him chomp at the bit to get out on the big stage

There's absolutely no way this would ever fly, and we'd piss people off in the process of trying. Imagine that: the AFL rules decree him ineligible for the draft, we take him through the trade/mini draft system, then he's allowed to play as a normal draftee would. The other clubs would crucify AFL house.

I'm all for using "innovative" ways to gain a competitive advantage, but trying to circumvent the rules isn't the way.

Liked what FootyRhino had to say about him:

"Settle down fantasy coaches, you can’t touch Jesse Hogan
for another 12 months. If I’m Mark Neeld, I’m shoving the 18 year old
in a dimly-lit room, with just a bench press, a mirror and a picture of
Jonathan Brown circa 2007. Every now and then, I’d slide a live cow
under the door with a hack saw and a blow torch. Hogan already weighs
100kg and was super impressive in Friday night’s games; it looks like
Melbourne might have a game-changer on their hands."

We just have to forget the nickname "Hulk" It's just so Corn ball.

What about the "Beast"?

It gets us away from a cartoon character and more into the type of attitude we want in a player.

Hulk - smash.

Smash Hogan.

Remember brad green.

He won a final for us in his first year.

Keeping hogan in cotton wool is soft.

If the kid can play, let him play.

If the afl can let it happen without too much fuss, then bring it on.

Contrary to popular belief, we are aiming to make finals, hogan may be the difference, especially considering Mitch's issues.

come on you lot, let's hose it down a bit - yes he looks good but we are talking about a total of 6 incidents in a praccy match. I have seen too many 'potential stars' come and go at this club. I don't think we are doing anybody any favours by talking him up so much so early. I'll be keeping an eye on his year at Casey though, there's a club that are probably pretty pleased with Tom Scully and GWS at the moment!

Scott McMahon is a 26yo defender who has played 106 games. He is also 184cm/88kg giving away 12cm and a similar amount in kilos to Hogan.

North either thought McMahon may run off him, liked his chances when the ball hit the ground or didn't pay too much attention to the mismatch. Whatever way you read it he is not a top key defender

Will be interesting to see if Port pay him more respect next week

He'll get the 3rd tall defender initially - the Jack Darling effect. That would be Watts, Dunn or Garland against us and I rate our tall defence. I think North's tall defence is their biggest weakness but they're not the only side without 3 capable tall defenders. One thing I liked in the North game was 2 or 3 defenders flying against Chris Dawes, add Mitch and Jesse and there's all sorts of problems for them.

2013 is a development year for the team as a whole. It will need to gel. it will ( hopefully ) get better as time progresses and we will go into 14 with a real sense of having a team.

13 will I sense have its share of pain, but tempered with progress.

if I could id just wake up this time next year.

Hogan will be fine in 14...he isnt ALLOWED to play this year.. just get over it . we have our fair share of idiots here dont we.

We are not equivalent to the Demons of 2000.

Hogan was always going to be 'in cotton wool' as stipulated by AFL rules.

How it is 'soft,' I have no idea...

The kid is not allowed to play, the AFL will keep all 4 underage players from playing (2 of them have already spent a year on the sidelines).

We may be 'aiming' for finals, but we certainly don't look capable of making finals, and an 18 year old will certainly not be the difference.

Finally we have the player we need

And something exciting to talk about. Reckon Viney , Toumpas and a couple of others might start turning the lights back on.

I wonder how many people think we payed overs for hogan now? would have been happy to fork out pick 1 for him on what i've seen.

You would think he would have gone top 3 pick in next years draft maybe pick 1. He would have dominated against kids this year. Thank god the MFC had the smarts to get him.

GC would want to hope that Jack Martin turns out to be a star because Hoges to me looks as sure a thing as you can get- where Martin has years of development to go before he can make an impact.

Cost us pick #3 which ended up being inconsequential as pick #4 netted us the Toumpas. Initially I was upset we didn't get Wines because I was sold on the Viney/Wines combo but I wasn't crying about that for too long. Toumpas is what we need; speed, skill and poise.

Viney at #26 was the icing.

The "Norm Smith curse" is a myth.

I hear and understand the calls for calm when it comes to hogan. But I'm sick to death of hearing tiger supporters bang on about their midfield and other supporters bang on about their team. I'm telling people hogan will [censored] all over them. I know I should stay calm but it's not like the MFC has thrown up much else to get pumped about. Tanking,186,scully and SFA wins has been the talking point of this club for too long.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
