Should we be nuturing any of these guys? What positions do they play?

I was kind of hoping we would rookie Tim Smith this year.

Could be a really exciting player.

I'd have been OK with that but then I'll reserve my judgement until I see this years crop in action.

Tim Smith has a great pair of hands and is a good mover. Also kicked some clutch goals in games I saw. Good luck to all three

It's good to see the VFL select a squad based on reasonably current form.

Not like our AFL that once you are in it is hard to get you out.

Let's hope the AFL take a leaf out of VFL's book.

Oh and while I'm at it. Please sack Bartlett. he is way older than me, so should be pensioned off.

TAC Cup young guns sign

The Casey Scorpions have announced the signing of five TAC Cup youngsters for the coming season:-

Jarryd Drew, Tom Fusinato, Darcy Irwin and Daniel Jackson, from Gippsland Power and Jackson Anderson who played with the Eastern Ranges. Anderson's father is a former premiership player with the Scorpions in the days when they were located in Springvale.

Brayden Fowler really impressed me in the limited footage I saw.

As CBDees said - who are they and where do they play? Big, small, forward, mid etc etc??????

keep a look out for jarryd drew during the year. Goes to my school and is a gun. compact mid who is very powerful. in numourous games against other schools he has pushed forward and kicked over 10 goals

Fowler (he's changed his surname from Salton) and Smith are tall KPP's who have some good attributes for VFL but I'm not sure as to whether they have it all together enough to go that step further. Fowler's got a great kick, Smith can take a big mark but both were hot and cold last year. Luke Tynan is the older brother of Josh and is a medium sized utility who plays hard and improved from reserves b & f to become a regular. All three really stepped up under Brett Lovett but need to continue that development this year.

I know there are many knockers who criticise our relationship with the Casey Scorpions but I think the alignment can work well both in an on the ground basis where we need good second tier players backing up the younger players on our list (I'd hate to see Jesse Hogan playing in a team of duds) and off field where we're committed to turning the fast growing area into a nursery for future supporters and members.

With the possibility of Chris Connolly playing a role in some capacity out at Casey this year (in some ways a continuation of his old role anyway), I believe we can still make this partnership work

Given the AFL conspired restrictions on CC I would have doubted that the only role that he could have at Casey would be liaison with Casey - anything that will not bring him in "contact" with MFC players.

The AFL has to be careful. Its one thing to decide that you won't employ a person .......... but its something else to try and prevent that person from picking up work with someone else. Casey is a separate entity outside the AFL competition. You can't deprive a person of their right to make a living.

I'm sure that if Chris is given a role at Casey, the MFC would get some sort of approval beforehand from the AFL which, after all ruins runs the game in this country.

IMO he would be a great acquisition by the Scorps and would no doubt fill the room on every home game if one of his jobs is to MC the President's Lunch.

I am all for nuturing but the reality is that if there if a star emerges from Casey he will be open to all comers in the draft.

I have been to a couple of Casey dinners when they have night games.....CC has been there speaking both times......He is a top bloke and a very very funny man....I believe he has the right to find employment as long as it is not in the AFL (Could be wrong)...

I suspect that the AFL would not countenance CC playing a role at Casey any more than MFC. IMO we should send him to America for a year to do a ports marketing course and then come back more qualified for the role which he has been doing (i.e. chasing partnerships and sponsorships). i think that you will find that the AFL has long tentacles extending into the state leagues.

I see that Mohr was one of the best players for GWS. Isn't he from Casey?

Alas no. MFC has a history of puting all the AFL listed players to bed before the final series. (I disagree entirely btw.)

So they may well finish minor premiers (bet the odds are short for this), but premiership? No.

Anyone up for this...?

We promise not to send players for early surgery, and instead, they play the entire VFL finals series.

We invest around $14,700 with above-mentioned betting agency.

Casey wins the flag.

We pay off our $500k fine.

Interesting tweet from Paul Amy to the effect that Casey South Melb Premier District cricket skipper Jake Best has been offered a contract by the Casey Scorpions to play in the VFL.

Leaving aside Brendan Fevola a couple of years ago, Casey has done well in the past with "no name" recruits who make good in the VFL. Best comes from the Leongatha Parrots and is a 22 year old goalkicking half forward. It will be interesting to see if he takes up the offer to join the Scorps. Cranbourne ruckman/key defender Michael Boland has also signed.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
