NAB CUP 1: NORTH MELBOURNE AND RICHMOND

Featured Replies

Sounds like we wasted the ball going forward and that allowed North to control the game from defense. That should be relatively easy to fix i'd have hoped. Is there any news about the blease injury?

Hogan will be an absolute star - Jordie must never kick the ball...

With real rules, we just won after the siren. Our team sure won the most cheers as they left, convincingly. Sitting right next to the ramp and more Richmond fans clapped north as they walked off. Priceless.

Should have won I know the stats say a different story but clean up a few things going forward and will be a lot better I know 1 thing is for sure NEXT YEAR WE WILL HAVE THE BEST FORWARD LINE IN THE COMP

Dean Kent could have been the hero if he hadn't sprayed his first shot on goal. But given the fact that only one team has won both their games, a 2 point loss is practically a win. The only thing is that we now have to beat Richmond after only a short break. Lucky Sylvia's playing. He's usually good for a couple of goals against the Tiges!

True, it was a win IF we had the NORMAL scoring system. We won by a point! A good effort indeed.

Showed enough to give some hope for the year. lot of young ones in the team and Dawes etc will only get better.

What do the others here think? I reckon we had the ball for a fair time attack, so while norf took the ball out of defense pretty quickly a few times, we did hold it in pretty well. Hogan good Dawes good. Any news* on Blease?

PS disposal not up to scratch.

Hogan - wow.

jones has to carry the midfield

Byrnes not involved much but positions well

Viney got thrown a tough match up in swallow and competed

I think we will have teething pains but also some success long term with Dunn, watts and McDonald down back

Jordie mckenzie was rusty

David Rodan made an impressive difference in the clearances

Michael Evans was lively

Think Jetta doesn't have the speed to play down back

I'd really prefer to play grimes down back, he seems robotic as a midfielder and not quite zippy enough in close

Kent missed a good opportunity and a chance at winning the game but he also found the ball. Natural ball winner at half forward is important

All in all I think Rodan and others will be vital to support jones to get us a midfield. The skill level might be slightly improved across the board. The defensive press still needs attention to detail but our biggest problem will remain our inability to spread at speed to cover off rebounding attacks.

Oh and hogan wow again haha

And I just don't think Dan Nicholson is clever enough to play Afl. Makes the same mistakes too often in terms of lack of accountability and with his disposal.

Hogan not afraid to give Byrnes a spray for not honouring his lead. The kids got character, swagger and wants it. Maturity beyond his years.

A good dose of awareness at 17. Sign him for six.

I hope you meant swagger?

Still hitting up high tackles after all the work done to go in low, and to think a lot on here thought we might give away too many trips. Think we might need to focus on the ankles then we might get the hips.

It's the easiest skill in the game to get right.

Hogan looks great.

I thought Cam Pederson looked alright - most of the better stuff I saw was from new recruits - Kent got plenty of it and having Rodan in the Midfield was a smart move - he backs up Jones well. Had some concerns about our defense without Rivers. Who kicked that turnover with about 7 minutes to go?

Wow we could have won this one if we'd gone for the nine pointer.

Hopefully the AFL won't think we're tanking.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
