Don McLardy's Statement

Half a mill isn't that much any more OD ,even when converted to metric.

The gaming commish has integrity issues of it's own OD.

Give yourself a minute to enjoy life before we spiral into the next panic cycle!

There is not much about the MFC that gives me much joy nowadays Biffen

I think I need a holiday!

How many ex-employees were there in this? So many? I believe the number was 2, but if you have anything to support there being more than that, be good to share it with us.

As for there "probably" being email evidence? If you know for a fact there was, once again, why not let us in on it. If you're just guessing, with nothing to support that, why even bring it up?

Even when this whole charade is done and dusted, there are still people speculating ...

Can't recall where I read it, but apparently 4 people in that meeting confirmed what Connolly said:

- Bailey

- 2 recruiters

- the player welfare officer

Now, we know that the player welfare officer was Ian Flack, who was unceremoniously released after Bailey left.

Rightly, in my opinion, but a definite axe to grind there.

But the other interesting thing is to take note of how many people who admitted to hearing the comment actually had any control whatsoever over the outcome of matches.

Only one.

Maybe, there is an agreement that the fine can be paid over 'x' many years, and that maybe over time, the fine can be further watered down so that in essence, the perception of a half $million fine was just a symbolic penalty that does not have to be paid at all. The afl have egg on their face, more so than MFC, and all parties know this. MFC may have said, if we challenge you in court, we will win and you will look almighty stupid on the other hand, give us a big fine which we can water down over a ten-year period.

Lesson learned, that's enough!

We need to be clear about the desired outcome by the AFL. They know 4 clubs at least have used tanking or "pre-game planning prejudicial to the interests of the AFL" and also realize the priority pick system was the catalyst. They weren't really interested in getting their man or punishing the club(s) involved. They needed an outcome that was political in nature. It had to:

Ensure everyone thinks the AFL is taking it seriously

Look as though they are being tough

Stay well clear of any outcome that would prove teams were deliberately trying to lose

Keep Demetriou well away from any flack

Be phrased in ambiguous legal terms

Ensure that no action - legal or otherwise - would occur subsequent to the announcement of penalties

They got all this, and we did not lose draft picks which in my mind is the right penalty for deliberately trying to lose.

You watch, in two weeks time this will be completely off the news pages. MFC and AFL will go very quiet very quickly. Caroline Wilson will be starved of oxygen and some other point of interest (gambling and drugs probably) will take the attention of the journos and media. The AFL will wipe their brow, say "phew - it all went to plan" and move on to Essendon and Brisbane.

I must say that Don has gained my respect during the whole saga.

"Some men are born to greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them" and all that .

He is the John Curtain of our club.

He has done a sterling job in a no nonsense manner and he keeps his mouth shut when he needs to .

Seems to speak softly and carry a big Fink,..er stick .

Agree with you up until yesterday when Don joined Gillon to make total fools of themselves. Maybe he should have kept his mouth shut.

But the other 98% don't believe one word of it rpfc

Well, they are never going to be satisfied without our club in the grave, OD, so I wouldn't worry about them.

We care about outside perception far too much - we got a ruling we needed and we move on and worry about playing football.

If they hate us, good.

IDGAF.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
