I think Neale Daniher did very well seeing we were broke for most of his time at the club.

He tried his absolute hardest but thats just my view.

Maybe did his best but for me, they went the wrong way.

Under that reign we became softer with most not winning the hard ball, chasing & other team oriented things.

the culture went further south.

Culminating in the need for a total purge of our list & new beginnings from the putting the Hat around to the recruiting.

Danners oversaw the onfield element & list development. Fail.

I have a sauce, i also heard that there not in that match trouble, an there trying to work out an out come that suits everyone, but the only stumbling block at the moment is DB.

of course they would, & you don't need a sauce to smell that out.

and it stands to reason that Bailey is further out on the Limb.

He did something that has only happened twice in 48 years.

He got us into a GF.

That is a fair effort IMO

That result is something the other umpteen people who coached the dees cannot claim.

He was better than a lot and i do not see it as a fail

I am not rewriting history. I don't know who you are, so can't be sure if you were standing next to me when I heard it from the horse's mouth, but I would imagine given your post that you weren't.

Let me spell it out for you, Molan was not Craig's choice at that pick but was his choice when asked to draft a specific type of player. If he was chosen with our 4th or 5th pick we wouldn't be discussing him.

Craig was not the sort of bloke to blame someone else so he used the collective "we" as a Club blew it. The individual who blew it was the Coach.

Lastly, the bloke sustained crippling injuries which never really allowed him to have an AFL career.

Exactly. He stuffed up and the buck stops with him.

CAC had his hits - Thompson, Jones, Frawley and misses Molan, Morton etc - we've been through this a billion times before - he's not Stephen Wells.

FWIW I actually think time will be kinder to BBBP than it has been so far ...

I'm not sure why this is directed at me. I haven't critiqued Cameron's recruiting record in this thread, I've merely mentioned the Molan howler.

I hate to say this, but my recollection was the Saints mid with the Spanish sounding name. If I see him at the next horse sales in early March I will ask him.

That's not correct.

Alternative KPPs in 2001 draft:

Matt Maguire (pick 21), Charlie Gardiner (pick 23), Aaron Rogers (26), Tom Davidson (27), Mark Powell (28), Lewis Roberts-Thomson (29), Ashley Hansen (38), Henry Playfair (41), Paul Salmon (50), Brad Miller (55), Mick Martyn (61), Damon White (62), Brian Harris (71), Tristen Walker (72), Aaron James (83).

Before Molan, only Graham Polak went at 4, and David Hale at 7.

I think CAC was probably in a lot of trouble as soon as ND decided he had to take a KPF.

At the same time, CAC's responsibility was to make it abundantly clear to ND that doing that would be a very poor decision.

After Melbourne picked Molan in 2001:

  • The father of the family he was billeted with died of cancer a few months after he was drafted.
  • Molan broke his leg playing for Sandringham in 2002.
  • He missed five weeks early in 2003 with a cartilage tear
  • In mid-2003, in the one incident, he broke his collarbone, received concussion and ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.
  • Delisted at the end of 2003, he was drafted back as a rookie, but cut at the end of 2004.
  • Recruited to Frankston in the VFL in 2005, he broke his leg in a practice match.
  • Then managed no more than four consecutive games in two seasons due to chronic hamstring injuries
  • Retired, he's still only 29.

Is anyone suggesting that Cameron (or Daniher) could've anticipated that? Wonderful hindsight.

No, I was told in confidence but he didn't particularly fancy Dal Santo.

12 years have since passed....c'mon :)

What didn't he like about Dal Santo, no right foot?

Bob can correct me if he knows but I think he would have and quite forcibly.

You'll have your moment in the sun if you're correct. Just save it. It sounds quite possible to me.

I don't know what he didn't like about Dal Santo. I shouldn't have said anything. My bad but we wouldn't have had Dal Santo and that was the point I wanted to make.

Both Neale and Craig were/are very strong charactersl but Craig recognized that Neale was the boss and did what he was asked.

Yes, there is only a handful of possible outcomes this week.

One of them will be a negotiated settlement for all parties with suspended bannings for some.

Not a fan of it myself as it denotes guilt.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
