The tragic downfall of Liam Jurrah

Whispering_Jack

Recommended Posts

I note Collingwood did not make a big deal about him when he was there. We milked the whole story for everything and looks like another of Schwab's hair brained promotions which as usual back fired badly.

As i understand it, Jurrah was never recruited by Collingwood, so why would they have made a big deal of him? But one thing certainly does become evident in your final sentence...just another CS hater.

is anyone surprised at whats happened here? the Australian legal syetem is one of the worstr in the world, and the judges are absoutely pathetic and gutless

Just ask the families of Jill Meagher and Sarah Cafferkey, and others who have had their families toirn apart by human filth that is allowed to walk the streets among us thanks to the [censored] wig wearing clowns that fail to take rape and murder seriously and continually give out soft sentences for brutal crimes

Don't see the similarities between a rapist/murderer and a reckless/agg assault. But yeah , hang em high and throw away the key and all that.

BTW the Judges dont set the punishments, they just apply them.

Speak to your local politician if you want the death penalty brought back.

If we hang 3 or 4 killers a year it saves the community millions over their lifetime.

I would introduce it for white collar crimes as well.

Liam just needs a slap over the face .

It sounds like you Muvver Jones would not be aware of the MFC`s glaucoma program which accompanied Jimmy`s trip to Yuendumu and which has helped reduce infection rates by 30 per cent over two years AND which is continuing and being maintained into the future.

It`s interesting that you invoke the name of a famous US progressive journal in your id but express such blunt, inflexible views.

I have read the book. I believe BHM (Rudeboy) was entirely genuine in writing it, but the title is the problem. It is more about BHM`s encounters with Liam than a comprehensive life so far tale.

Not the journal, the old lady that inspired it.

Read this article, the treacle could not have been trowelled on any thicker. Not much mention of Glaucoma.

I don't recall that but wouldn't he have been referring to Jurrah's celebrity status in his family / community ? This was certainly raised by his defence - the tactic of targeting the tall poppy in the community.

The point I'm making is that Jurrah didn't create - and certainly couldn't stop - the hype about him.. he was a star on the rise, and the story was a fairytale that was always going to accompany his career.

Yes I'm pretty sure it was in that vein regarding the 'tall poppy' that Liam had become in the eyes of his community.

I agree with you to an extent that a lot of that wasn't of his making. But those who 'adopted' him - particularly Rudeboy as his chief 'minder' - should have been less naive (kindest way I can put it) about that aspect of the Jurrah 'phenomenon' and resisted fanning the flames of it. I think it's beyond dispute that the book was premature and counter-productive.

Muvver Jones may also have a point regarding those feel-good junkets to Yuendumu, well-intentioned though they were.

Geez there's some silly posts here. Never heard so many judgmental braggarts in one place. Everyone seemed happy with the book at the time, so all you Captain Hindsights coming out saying "rah rah Rudeboy's book ruined everything" sound like absolute fools. It's unbelievable how many here who seem to have no understanding of Liam's community and background now seem to know exactly what should have been done and are so gleeful in their ill-informed tut tuting and finger waiving. NONE of us truly understand Liam and his family. All of you trying to show just how much you know are only serving to highlight your ignorance.

This is a terrible situation no matter who you believe is at fault, and it's an absolute indictment on certain posters here that they are trying to use it to push agendas and place themselves on the moral high ground by constantly putting things down rather than contributing anything constructive.

This thread should be closed again and only opened for news updates posted by a mod. It's an embarrassment.

When did i ever say the release of the Jurrah book was a good idea Stuie?

I have always said it was about 30% completed.

As we can all see the story is still unfolding.

(BHM) Rudeboy made a bad error there, it may have been innocent but it was done.

But keep ranting Stuie if it makes you feel better.

Stu, you are fast developing a track record of imploring mods to close down threads which contain views you disagree with.

It's not a good track record to have.

You’ll no doubt require intense counselling to recover from such a loss Biffo –

perhaps even a weekend at Hepburn.

However,I reckon it’s time to close this thread and let the Jurrah issue go -

permanently. As far as I can see 99.9% of what is being written here is either

pure (impure?) opinion, guesswork, speculation or simply drivel. The reality is

that only Liam and those closest to him can sort out the mess he finds himself

in. Nothing written here will change anything and in fact, only adds to the

acrimony. Some of the Demonland “journalism” on this issue makes Kero look

Pulitzer prize material.

Good luck to Liam but footy (for us) starts tomorrow – thankfully. Let’s argue about that and other serious issues

such as how many bananas an alpaca can consume.

Christ. It seems I’m at least partially agreeing with Stuie. I’d better find a counsellor– no hang on – I already have a counsellor.

The only concession I'd make to Stu is that this thread probably doesn't need to be on the footy board. The issues surrounding it more suit the general board given we're neither discussing an MFC player or even a current day footballer.

It's more politics and sociology than sport.

Leave it where it is. It is a relevent discussion.

If Stuie has such strong issues with the discussion then he shouldn't ipen the thread.

It's that easy.

mate i have lived up in the top end for a few months, so i do have a little insight.

Have you travelled?

Keep your ignorant comments to yourself. Getting a little tired of you deciding what is right or wrong on this site Stuie.

Liam is in the news weekly at the moment, bouncing from one disaster to another.

It is my opinion that the book that was written on Liam was published way to early and has contributed to the situation that is still unfolding.

Bad decisions were made, some innocently & some just plain bad.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
