"...constantly giving away frees..." check your facts before posting - he gave away an average of only 2 per game last season - and received almost 2 as well...!

When I first seen the amount of players now in the LG. I thought way too many for mine. Thats 1/2 the playing team (when all fit and playing).

Then after thinking about that, perhaps the thinking was, too put more pressure on the guys on the field and get them to show some leadership and be held accountable.Its one area that does need addressing. It also eases the pressure off the 2 young captains.

In the next couple of years I would like to see 1 captain and a smaller LG. But for now, if ours win tally beats the amount in that group I'll be happier.

Within football clubs the leadership group is considered more important than who tosses the coin.

None of us are in a position to have an informed opinion on the matter, so we back the club to have made the correct choices.

In 2012, Jordie gave away on average 2.0 free kicks per game (that's one per half). However, he also received 1.7 free kicks per game (total 41 against, 34 for).

The differential of 0.3 was much lower than James Frawley (0.6), Joel McDonald (0.7), Colin Garland (0.6) and Brent Moloney (0.9) (mostly defenders ... that's what happens!).

Considering he has the most tackles in the team (average 5.8 per game), it's no wonder he gives away a couple of free kicks.

In my experience there are plenty who are great leaders at training and at breaks. Leave it out.

Jordie McKenzie is clearly a little ripper. Seems always to be the coach's favourite. He's done well, because I don't reckon Neeld rated him at all when he first arrived at the club - that's obviously changed.

Despite some of the carp he receives here, it's no secret that Adelaide are red hot for him. And they don't recruit muppet mids.

To me, this means the club sees him in our best 21 - and, as everyone knows, a true blue heart and soul character. I love the bloke.

I'm going to the TAB now and putting a couple of hundred bucks on us winning the NAB Cup. Irrational I know, but for some reason I'm pumped up.

I think it is a big leadership group, but at the present phase of 'culture change', it's probably necessary to have a presence across the ground. What excites me more are the up and coming leaders of our club like Viney, McDonald, Toumpas and possibly Nicholson, who are going to learn directly from the present group. This is why the likes of Byrnes and Dawes have been included - setting a base for the future.

well there is no reason why he shouldn't

leadership groups across all clubs regularly change their membership

the most important thing players need to remember is they are there to play good football and be part of a good team

popularity is a fleeting phenomenon, being a great player in a great team stays with you forever

I like the new leadership group,as it has a couple of player from each of the three groups (back, forwards and mids) and the new players selected are experienced (Dawes, Byrnes, McKenzie). While the leadership group have a role around the club, at training, etc... it is their role on the ground in the heat of a game that most interests me.

These players have put up their hands and been selected to the leadership group on the basis that week in week out, when the [censored] hits the fan in a game, they will be the ones taking responsibility to turn it around.

Grimes, Clark and Jones did well in this area in 2012, I'd expect more members of this group to excel at this in 2013.

People who are questioning the inclusion of players in the leadership group based on how the poster sees the players football ability miss the point. Leaders are leaders and not necessarily the best players. Harley and Maxwell are two classic examples of captains who were not in the teams best dozen players but won Premierships and are considered exceptional captains. McKenzie clearly offers much as he's won the Coaches award three years in a row under three different coaches. I would have been stunned if he hadn't been included.

I was critical of the appointment of Trengove and Grimes as Captains at the time last year. Trengove particularly seemed to have struggled with the role and in a recent interview alluded to the impact the captaincy had on him. But having spent a year teaching him what to do the concept of now replacing him is ludicrous and would be an embarrassment to all concerned. He's clearly captaincy material but unfortunately he was pushed into the role 3 or 4 years too early. My fear is that it may have had a permanent impact on his football. Let's hope he not only returns to his 2011 form but significantly exceeds it.
