Training - Monday 14th January, 2013

That's from AFL.Com.

With no other "facts" it will be what guides me.

I can tell you now there's no way Barry weighs 78 kg, regardless of what the AFL website is showing. The MFC website had Rodan weighing in at 68kg at one stage and clearly they were wrong. I'm sure when the MFC do their player profile updates the AFL will change it.

I'll be very surprised if Barry gets a game this year. Especially within the first half of the season.

Thanks for the constant flow of training reports.

-Mark Neeld was also nowhere to be seen. Neil Craig ran the majority of the session.

Was Neeldy at Friday's training? Maybe he is not yet back from leave??? He didn't have much of a break, given the lead up to trade/draft period, pre Xmas training, etc. Anyone know?

Thanks for reports everyone

Very annoyed at the club over this. I spent the weekend checking the website for times and locations and up until 2am today (last time I looked) it was still saying Friday the 11th. I check this afternoon and discover that they have updated the site after the fact so it now says the next session is on Monday the 14th at 9.30. This was one of the few times I could actually have gotten out to see the boys train and I missed out because they can't keep their website up to date.

Maybe next time call the club. The AFL/MFC website has been inconsistent since its inception.

Barry should get games due to the list not having enough speedsters in the midfield/backline/forwardline. Daveys is not a hard nosed player and when he tackled he usually ended up piggy backing the opposition. But he created pressure (perceived and actual) which was usefel to the team in years past.

Barry could provide similar benefit, But he is young and may take a year or two to develop his role.

I hope that Barry does not become a whipping boy from all the hype posters are giving him. Remember he is a project player. He is not Viney

78 kg

But yes, his challenge will be adjusting to the physical contact of AFL footy.

I'm 6'2" and way 79kg

If Barry weighs 78kg then he's got lead in his pants

Lucky if he weighed 70

Now monoccular take a deep breath

Your paranoia is showing

Is it paranoia when the whole world really is conspiring against you?.

It will be further evidence that we are actually tanking if he plays, or on the other hand if he doesn't, using the Inquisitor / Watts theory, it seems. Edited by monoccular

Considering you took the time to correct a poster who stated Barry weighed 68kg, it seems you do indeed give a continental.

No, I was sharing information from the MFC and AFL website that the said poster MAY not have been aware of. When you look at all of the draftees from the 2012 draft Barry doesn't appear, because he was traded as a zone selection. When you go to footywire.com and look at the MFC list he's the only player that doesn't appear. They even have rookies Clisby and Stark, but not Barry, so his bio didn't appear to be readily available, ergo, I was trying to help.

But, as stated, I couldn't give a [censored] what he weighs. My eyes tell me he's good, whether he's 67 kg wringing wet, or 65.

Ben what have you thought of Taggert this PS. I like him but it's pretty much based on his game against BH (Box Hill) last year.

And I didn't see that game.

I have nothing to go on other than watching him train. He's a nice size and the skills seem OK without being anything special. I know I'm not much help, but I really have no view.

He's competing with Matt Jones for a spot and my gut tells me that he's behind him. But I don't know why I feel that way.

Thanks.

Jones is 25, which gives him an advantage over Taggert and Jones is also tallish for a mid, is quick, plus he's a nice kick. I read somewhere on here that the players were really impressed with Jones in one training drill where they couldn't lay a hand on him.

As I said, it's a guess, but I reckon Jones will get a decent look in this year. He's one I've been considering for my DT bench.

Tynan? Haven't heard too much about him lately, how is he tracking?

Who is looking good to take Barty's spot? Is Nicholson a clear stand out or does he have clear competitiion at this stage?

Surely Jetta is in the mix?

He's been training with the backline, IIRC.....

Josh Tynan is definitely in the mix. He is training with the backs and Jade Rawlings is riding him very hard. Nicho is probably ahead of him just at this point. What I like about Tynan is his versatility. He has the ability to pinch hit up forward and has shown he can kick a goal. Josh is great overhead for his height. Speaking to people involved at Casey they thought Tynan had a big future at MFC.

If he puts in a few more games like the Box Hill one he will be well in the mix 'Fan' but because of his injury plagued season in 2012 he is being handled a little like Evans with his training loads.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what he can do, good size, nice kick.

I really liked what I saw in his first game, it's good to know we have options. The small defenders role is up for grabs and we need to find the mix of toughness, speed and good disposal which so far has eluded us.

Does it look like Terlich could eclipse all or too early to judge potential this early. Looked unbelievable in the highlights package.

I watched Dean pretty closely yesterday. He is definitely a good decision maker with the footy in hand. Terlich is a good size, and reliable one on one from what I've heard. The NAB Cup will sort a few positions out, but one thing we'll have this year which we haven't had for a while is competition for spots.

Will be very exciting spirit, we virtually have a brand new team to tinker with. Something to look forward to. I can't wait to see how a team of Neeld players hit contests and hopefully in time run out games.

I haven't seen Jones. But the introduction of Jones, Rodan and the development of Evans will make it very hard for players like Taggert to get a place. Also I'm a fan of Strauss and hope he gets a full preseason. His kicking will be an asset and he along with Terlich will make it hard for Nicholson and Tynan I'd think.

Our first and second year players will find it hard to get a game I'd think,

Righto.

If he weighs under 70 kgs, (which I don't think he does.. Surely not?) then I doubt he will get many games this season and if he does it definitely won't be up the ground where he seemed to play a lot of his under 18's footy.

Forward pocket this year for me until he develops that little body.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
