North will take Garlett at 30 having missed out on Eddie Betts is my tip for the draft

Why do they need Garlett when they already have Thomas?

Posted

Not quite on the 2013 ND, but Knightmare has added his 2014 Power Ratings and has Billy Stretch at number 10. Looks like we might need to offer up a first rounder, unless we are bottom 2 or 3. I doubt we'll be allowed to get away with the Viney strategy again.

Same reason they wanted Betts even though they had Thomas maybe?!?

No disrespect to Knightmare, but his power rankings change so often Stretch might not even get drafted if it was just based on his assertions.

Very true. But they are based on the info we have at the moment - who knows what Billy will do next season. Erin Wisley-Black was meant to be first round this time last year and in 12 months just didn't come on like the others.

Here's hoping Billy does and we get a steal at pick ?

Footy Tragic's Top 50 is worth a look (it's his own top 50, in reverse, not a phantom draft)

If its in reverse than that means he thinks Tom Boyd is the worst player in the draft.....

Yeah but you said in reverse, and anyway in no universe is Matt Crouch the 50th best player more like 15th

I agree with everything he says about Crouch.

I saw him almost kill a kid with fierce attack on the footy, and it was very impressive, but you only have a relatively finite number of possessions over the course of a match and efficiency is exceptionally important.

Not to mention he struggles outside of a stoppage.

He's a longshot to carve out a 50 game career, in my opinion.

I think he will have a good career so don't agree with you on this one 'Machsy'. He has been getting a lot of outside ball to go with the stoppage stuff and that's why his stats have gone up. His kicking is not that bad.

Mark Williams could change the draft predictions if he gets the job at St Kilda. He is a big rap for Scharenberg so it will be interesting to see if he has the power at the club to make that decision.

Posted

A great leap of faith, but what about Zak Jones for pick 9 (instead of Freeman)?

I am sure that we would be repaid in spades by both Jones's!

Brett Anderson's Inside Football Mock Draft has us taking this player:-

9. Melbourne

Matthew Scharenberg | Glenelg | 190cm | 89kg.

Considered a top five lock mid year, the rangy utility slips to Melbourne due to the rise of Kolodjashnij and the Lions punt on McCarthy. Paul Roos has added a fair amount of size and depth to the Dees midfield brigade via trades and free agency, and can do with boosting the back half. Scharenberg has raised a few go home concerns with clubs during interviews (which may be a strong reason for Brisbane to pass), but he is amazing value here for the Dees, as he could also develop into another big-bodied midfielder.

Suits me.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
