So Jude Bolton after a mammoth season runs a better 3k time trial than last year.

Yes he is simply wonderful as a team man, a leader, and a player.

I wonder if players like Col Sylvia or the like ever look at players like Jude and think to emulate.

Apart from Jones we rarely seem to hear much about our senior players bettering their pre season year on year.

That is clearly changing. Read the two page spread in today's Age by Emma Quayle. It provides a very interesting insight to the up to date (cutting edge?) training methods that are now employed at Melbourne. The Shannon Byrnes quote in that article says it all.

Someone please do the link thing.

Agree its defintely changing but I just would love to see someone like Sylvia come out in pre season and blitz it setting the example. Im very happy to see us changing it just demonstrates wh culture at the swans is so strong.

It's not unusual to improve your endurance in your 30s. Training effects can be cumulative and plenty of endurance athletes perform best past their 20s. Carlos Lopes won the Los Angeles Olympic marathon at age 36, and set a world record in that event at age 38, after a fairly lacklustre athletic career in his 20s.

That's why most of them are gone and have been changed over by others, that's the bit Greg Denham doesn't understand.

I don't believe this. I'm inept with technology but i figured some smart demonlander would create the link to what is a great article. Surely dandeeman and myself aren't the only ones who read the Age (despite she who has one and is one).

BTW dandeman I clicked your profile by mistake - I'm not stalking you.

Why are we all so focussed on Sylvia? It is so boring continually potting the guy.

I haven't seen any preseason sessions, but it seems like there are at least 10-15 players who are absolutely smashing themselves. Why can't we focus on McDonald, Nicholson, Howe, Viney, Blease and the others who people continually indicate are working their backsides off?

It is refreshing that The Age still does have one true journalist, one that does not choose to hang any personal dirty washing that she may have out in public. Well done Emma. Edited by monoccular

Probably because Col has the talent of all those guys put together. If he had applied himself from day one he would have been one of the great all time players, if not just for us, possibly for the whole AFL. Not bagging out those players (it's pretty close to a list of my favourites), Sylvia just has THAT much talent.

Also some great photos in the Age of the boys at training. They look very keen and purposeful. I bet Caro didn't suggest these pictures.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
