Strauss has the reputation of being a great kick - and he appears to have a good technique - but under AFL pressure I'm not yet convinced he is. There hasn't been anything elite about his kicking in his AFL career to date

They said we got Maric because of his elite kicking. He was terrible.

Maric was a good kick, but his decision making was very average.

His first shot at goal for us was not even Auskick standard and to be quite honest I don't think his kicking was ever that good. Fortunately, as Todd said in his interview, they aren't going to draft players in future because they are a good kick, or a good mark, they have to have the whole package.

The 4 pillars of Melbourne; sounds good.

Maric was/is an elite kick. He just couldn't do it once he got tired.

And with his running ability, this happened very quickly.

Maric had two great problems. First was a lack of work ethic, hence the fitness issues. Second was his ability to cope with pressure. He was a poor set shot because he had time to think about it, but occasionally he showed us some real magic with his field kicking. It just wasn't often enough, again due to a poor work ethic and inability to get the ball.

Strauss is a different animal, still hold hope for him.

We need him to turn out to be a good one, we need his ilk. Needs belief

Why isnt Colin running

He sure needs a better tank and should be working hard now if not injured.

So he can have an excuse for failing to deliver in his 9th season...... (oh but I didn't have a full pre-season)

You mean except for his 83% disposal efficiency, the highest in the team, both this year and last year?

I would say anything over 80% in regards to disposal efficiency is in the elite category.

The % disposal efficiency stat can be misleading. A player can build up his %DE stat by chipping the ball around in the back line. I think any figure over 70%DE for kicks over 40m would be considered elite. Unfortunately I don't think they have a stat for that.

Where do you get this information from? i remember him two years in a row mentioned by coaches as fronting up to pre-season training in extremely good condition and improving his engine quite a bit. I never heard of negatives off field, and training reports were consistently positive about him.

Maybe some are not good enough in the end.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
