Clint Bartram retires

Featured Replies

Love this bloke, hard worker just like Jonesy imo, a bit less talented but still good in the backline imo, hope he gets a coaching gig if he wants it like Mathew Egan imo, great to have around the club

Barty had that essential ingredient that all true Demon players must have moving forward ... heart.

Wasn't a huge fan of his disposal, but all I feel is a sense of sadness. Could never question his courage and his heart.

All the best Barts.

One of the biggest hearts at the club, he knew his skill limitations so made sure he made up for it in sheer determination. It's a travesty that he missed out of playing finals in his first year after he played every game before getting injured in the last round of the year.

I hope this cutting edge technique can allow him to get his knees to good health and it doesn't affect him for the rest of his life.

Good luck for the future, and thanks for giving everything every single time you put on the red and blue.

Very sad day - I will really miss Clint's toughness, his hard tackles and his loyalty to the club. I hope he stays around in some sort of capacity. He would be a great mentor to some of the younger guys.

( memo to club... keep him )

Sad day. I had the pleasure of meeting Clint last year and, all other considerations aside, I was left with the overiding "gee what a nice guy" feeling. Good luck for the future mate.

Sad to see him go

I think our small backmen stocks are running thin.

Off field role?

Still can't believe it was him that kicked that checkside goal in the wet this year. Surely it wasn't Bartram?

These kinds of injuries are the pits for hard workers like himself.

Heart was in my mouth whenever he had the ball in his hands but if the ball was there to be won, he'd never flinch.

All the best Clint.

Sad to see him go. The treatment always sounded like a long shot.

Any one else pick up the error in the article? Nice one Jon Ralph...

"It will strip yet more valuable experience from the Demons list, with Brock McLean and Jared Rivers - the club's top-two finishers in the best-and-fairest in 2011 - already leaving the club as free agents."

And please DO NOT give number 3 to one of our first year players. Make them earn it FFS!!!!!

Good luck Barty. You were always Mr 110% in terms of commitment and effort, and that attitude will stand you in good stead for whatever lies ahead. It's certainly not hard to see why Neeldy held you in such high regard, and why you were elevated to our leadership group. If your future remains in footy, I hope we'll see you around the Club down the track.

Sorry to see him go :( He may not've been the most skillful player, but he had an incredible work rate and players like that are very valuable. Hopefully he hangs around in an off field mentoring role and supports the players as they could learn from him as far as how hard you have to push yourself.

This is sad news.

Best of luck to him. If only the rest of our list got as much out of themselves at Bartram did.

Agree with all you have said, would be great around the club in a footy role..

The AFL.com.au article says he's going to concentrate on business interests, so presumably any off-field role he takes on will be minor.

Yeah read it again..

Over the last few years, I went from despising his presence in the team (because it meant turnovers), to wanting him there in spite of this (because his other strengths were so valuable), to being pleasantly surprised by the improvement in his supposed weakness.

A sad day when a player is forced out of the game, even though he embodies the character you wish all players had.

All the best Bartram, and I hope you keep heavily involved in the MFC.

When he was on the footy field at least you know he would always give 100% which was more than could be said of some of his team mates

Interesting the article says "He later described the weight gain process as the most difficult thing he had endured." He should have given me a call, I have weight gain completely sussed

More quality HS reporting

Good luck Barty. Just shows how brutal this game is on bodies.

What he lacked in Skill...He made up for in GUTS AND DETERMINATION.

Plus...he can always gloat to Cotchin that he got his sloppy seconds :)
