Retire 31?

Are you kidding me?

The little simpleton that used to wear it got us (with Gysberts, Pick 3, Pick 12 and Pick 45) - Clark, Wines, Dawes, Barry, Hogan, Pedersen, and Pick 74.

We should honour him by putting Viney in 31 as tribute.

And then Viney will make a tribute of him...

I say this a lot, so apologies for harping on, but...

WHY?!?!

I just hate this idea that a player should start high and 'earn' a lower number.

What is wrong with a player coming to the club, getting a number, whether it's 1 or 51, and making that his own number? What has the number got to do with the player, or his ability, or his time at the club, or his popularity, or anything? Why does Howe have to move from 38? Where does the line get drawn between 'high' and 'low'?

Howe should stay with 38. All our players from 2012 should stay with their current numbers, and the new players should fill the gaps. By all means, fill the lower numbers first, if that's what we want to do, but when lower numbers are available, that should not give grounds to move someone who already has a number into it.

yes I am with you, there is a sentimental value to following the same player in the same number through his career - I think what really turned me off all this promoting was when Jurrah got moved from 48 to 24, and hardly fired a shot after that. A curse!

Well the club said they will certainly be announcing the jumper presentation date before the 1st of Dec, but I am wondering the most as to what number Chris Dawes will be.

He has played under 31 at Collingwood, but our 31 was retired again after $cummy took off to GWS.

Will we issue him the 31? or a fresh number for a fresh start?

Anyone with any inside information?

Well I have the feeling he is pretty keen to resurrect his form.

Word has it, after Neeld and Browny visited him at home, Neeld pitched the whole "The Dee's is where its all at", Browny and I are your coaches, your playing your preferred position with nothing stopping you.

So it's all in Dawes hands. Hey if he delivers, stays with the club, he will be a name for the number 31.

Barass left in 1965 nearly 50 years ago........The jumper does not make the player ....the player makes the jumper.....Let someone make it their own and move on.......

what did Paul Wheatley actually do apart from kick 9 pointers in meaningless NAB Cup games?

It's nothing to do with the number WYL, you have to want it and Dawes is the polar opposite to Scully I say if he wants it give it to him and if not him JV.

Was a pretty good player, great kick, good ball getter and fitted in to a pretty good side.....Don't let your love of a number blind you into bagging other players that wore it..... Edited by Bossdog

not bagging anyone. I just never rated Wheatley as a player. Average at best.

I think you have a selective memory.....Who else wore 31#.......The only one I can remember was Ray Groom......and why does it matter.......It's only a number.....

31 should be banished for decades. It was RDB's thats it. It has bought us nothing but trouble since. Let Chris forge his own path.

You're changing what you were saying. You went from saying that the number "has bought (sic) us nothing but trouble" to saying that the number shouldn't be worn by average players. Give it to Dawes and let him make it his own.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
