Who do you think will be delisted from Melbournes list?

With many new players now joining the club (Viney, Hogan, Byrnes, Barry + another 3-5 players) Melbourne will need to make room on their list by delisting some players.

Possible delistngs - Cale Morton

- Matthew Bate

- Ricky Petterd

I was just thinking this. We have lost 4 players and gained 4 so far so does that mean we cant net anymore in trades until we delist?

Posted

Bate and Petterd are absolute certainties to be delisted if we don't miraculously extract a trade for them...

Anyone know if Barty has had any luck with his knee recovery?

It's a good question actually. I don't think we would be on the hunt for players unless we had an idea of who would be delisted.

So expect possible delistngs in the coming weeks.

I very much doubt any players will be delisted until the trade period has closed. However slim the chances, these to-be-delisted players are also trade bate (pardon the pun). Once delisted, these players effectively become FAs. Exceptions might be players who have walked out on the club or retired, eg Jurrah, Green, Lawrence.

Can we please look at the MFC contract list before calling for player A to be cut even thought they are contracted for 2013?

This is where it gets hard

This is what I see after today's events... trying to compare apples for apples.....and well done to our recruiters you've done a brilliant job so far

FA: in Shannon Byrnes, out Brad Green

ND pick 3: Hogan - not on list until 2014

ND pick 4: hopefully GWS go for a left fielder and we can pick whoever is left out of Grundy, Toumpas or Whitfield. Out Bate

ND pick 13: in Dom Barry, out Liam Jurrah

ND pick 20: in a small forward to follow on from Byrnes. Out Petterd.

Nd pick 26: in Jack Viney, out Brent Moloney

ND compo for Moloney: in maybe a small quick defender, out ?

PSD pick # 3: someone decent will be available, another out

Rookie upgrade: Nicholson, out ?

IMO if this is to happen, we will need to let go Petterd, Bate and 3 others.

I don't like the idea of dispatching 1st round picks so quickly, Gysberts and Cook should be developed at Melbourne.

And I think Martin, Morton and Bennell can still be worth persevering with.

So this is my conundrum...who do we have to "let go" and do we really gain anything by delisting a Joel Macdonald and picking up a late 2nd round pick at this stage of our reincarnation?

from what I have been told by both Bartram and the club they are happy with the way it is coming along, would thnk we would know before the end of the year at the latest.

I think Bate still has trade currency, obviously with contract complications.

Bate is a FA. He has no trade value as he can go where he likes. Please do some research.

Cale (yawn) is (yawn) contracted (yawn)

If they can't get a trade for Morton they should just pay out his contract for next year and tell him not to bother turning up.

Monfries was a free agent too, so it's possible that a deal similar to that could arise where it is better to do a trade between clubs than the FA method.

Morton has been told he is completing for a spot on the wing, finally will get a full year to have a crack at his favorite position. Don't forget this guy is a goal kicker.

In: Byrnes, Hogan, Barry, Viney, pick 4, pick 20, 2 more draft picks, Cam Pedersen or Dawes (would prefer Pedersen), Nicholson (rookie upgrade)

Out: Martin (trade), Moloney, Green, Jurrah, 6 others

My pick for the 6: Bartram, Bate, Cook, Morton, Petterd, Davis

Happy to see Joel Macdonald, Bennell and Spencer go as well but for varying reasons I think they will stay. Obviously if Rivers walks then there is space for one more to stay. I have my fears about the ability for us to move Morton on. At this stage with us going Hogan I think Gysberts might be worth a one year deal, if not we should look to trade him for something of value.

Posted

Cook can eff off, hopefully we can get something for him before the trade period ends. No idea about contract status but the guys I'd put out there first are Bennell, possibly Petterd, Davis (unless we lose Rivers) and Spencer (depending on what happens with Martin). I would much rather hang on to Sellar than say Spencer.

Wings his worst position. He spuds it up in the backline and the forward line. At least when he's in the midfield you can say oh poor Cale that big bodied AFL midfielder was too good for you or when he's down back you say don't worry that forward pressure was a lot so no wonder you kicked it straight to the other team.

When he jogging up and down the wing rocking up clangers it just gets worse.

You must be related to him???

Just Pi## him off he has had every opportunity and is not capable. Maybe a change of jumper like his brother will help. iI for one am tired of wtaching his pathetic efforts

I cant believe I am saying this but I see something in Morton and don't think he should be delisted.

I think that he should be given one more year. Him and Gysberts.

I have lost hope on Martin, Bennell, Petterd, Cook, Davis (Unlucky and if other teams do their research will be a good pickup) and Bate

Those 6 with Lawrence, Green, Moloney and Jurrah make 10 possible changes.

I count them in my list as i expect a turnover of 10 all up including rookie pickups.

Also players can be delisted and redrafted as rookies.

That aside we also have an international list which we can have up to 6 international players.

All ready gone 3

Green

Jurrah

Moloney

To Go

Petterd

Bate

Davis

Bennell

Cook

Bartram Unfortunately I think the knees are gone.

Gysberts will be traded

That makes 8

probably

Rivers will leave

Martin maybe part of a deal

That makes 10

Doubt will change more than 10 players this year

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
