He definitely wants to come home; it's just a matter of getting the deal done. His family live in the bayside area and his girlfriend has returned from Adelaide. I would be very surprised if he stayed at Port. He considers their football program to be a basket case (and that was before Primus left).

He would definitely be in our starting line up. There's no question about that. He has had some injury concerns (including a clean out of both ankles at the end of this season) but he is already fit for preseason.

Booming left foot, which is reasonably accurate, strong body (he doesn't need to put on any weight) and can play on a flank or wing. I would love to see him at half back for Melbourne next year. He will continue to improve over the next few years.

can anyone tell me WHY MFC is NOT listed as an interested party for Ben Jacobs. It seems to me we need Skilled young players, and Jacobs fits our quarterback need. He would release Grimes to a midfield role.

I know we seem to be mentioned as linked to 6-7 players right now, but Jacobs would be in my top 3 behind Dawes & Ray. (a swap of Gysberts for Jacobs would be a win for both clubs provided JG was agreeable).

I read this arvo they are having a talk.

If Nth stuff us about, the next best thing to do is trade for Jacobs.

Better yet just get in his ear and have him nominate for the PSD if the trade falls through. Say he only wants to play in Victoria and grab him there!

If we did the dud Gys deal then we should sneak this bloke away from Nth grasp just to give them the sh*@s

In the box seat for Jacobs in the PSD!

Probably means another delist too...

For us to not get him, a team has to directly ignore his desperation to get back to Melb.

A ballsy act for GWS or GCS, who are both already trying to suppress any overt homesickness within their playing groups.

Fingers crossed.

I know we were big fans of him as a junior.

An MFC staffer told me we were likely to select him a week prior to the draft.

Looked like Cook was too good to pass up!?

I really hope we get him in the psd I wanted us to pick him up in 2010. It will make the mistake of cook a bit better too if we land him!

We should be all over this kid like a cheap suit. We are his only guaranteed path to play in Victoria next year (via PSD as has been stated).

Surprised not more is being said about this in media..... Port have been very very silly here.

Not if he re signs with them.

Not if he re signs with them.

And doesn't he automatically enter the ND as well if you nominate for the PSD. If that's the case he would most certainly get picked up before the PSD.

Posted

My statement was based on the kids comments that he wants to return to Vic. Clearly there is something wrong given he was trying to get to North and hasnt already signed.

I understood (happy to stand corrected) that he can nominate for PSD, just like Joel Mac did.

Posted

So is he going to the national draft or pre season?

I've searched and could only find an article by Jon Ralph back in 2008 that talks about giving players options to go in either draft but its hardly conclusive. Would love if some more worthy 'google'er' could add value.

I think he will go into the ND.

But who knows...

I wonder how valuable the PSD is now?

Probably could do without it.

No, he can choose to just nominate for the PSD if h wishes. And that's what we need to be getting in his ear about. Make him a strong offer, he'd walk into our best 22 on the half back line along side Watts.

Posted

So you need to win him over and get him to agree to only nominate for the PSD. We are first Vic club and take him.

Correct. My point moreover is that we may be the lesser of two evils. If he wants to play in Victoria, we can help him with that. Obviously we dont want him if he doesnt want to be here, but why wouldnt you investigate it?

Mitch nominated Freo remember.....seems pretty happy now.

I can see your argument rpfc but I'm unsure if you have a reason for the opinion or its just general negativity.

Given ND opens him to the risk of Port picking him up (as they have threatened) the PSD does offer him benefits if his true goal is returning to Vic.

Given he holds the choice, persuasion is possible.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
