Ben Jacobs

I can see your argument rpfc but I'm unsure if you have a reason for the opinion or its just general negativity.

Given ND opens him to the risk of Port picking him up (as they have threatened) the PSD does offer him benefits if his true goal is returning to Vic.

Given he holds the choice, persuasion is possible.

If we don't see a better option out there...

I don't know. We can always have the discussion.

Or he can do a Luke Ball and make it more difficult.

We will see.

Definitely could do without the PSD, but then how much of a chance would we have of getting him then?

I reckon players in his position with potential suitors (as opposed to desperate hope that someone will want them) tend to choose the relative certainty of the PSD.

We have to try to convince him he'd be better going in the PSD so he can get to us, while Port will be doing their best to convince him that GWS or GCS will take him first, so might as well stay with the devil you know.

All for getting him in the PSD - but wouldn't mind seeing what is out there first.

Doubt there is much...

Don't think we will get him in the ND but if our FD want him pretty sure if we got in his ear and guaranteed to him we would take him pick 3 in PSD and he makes it clear he wants home to Victoria then we should be able to snare him

I spoke with his parents yesterday. He's here in Melbourne should MFC want to talk to him, but he hasn't had direct contact (only indirect, through his manager). He's desperate to return home, for family, girlfriend and footy.

Lets hope we want him.

Can you nominate your price in the national draft? I didn't think you could. In which case, it's another reason the PSD would be preferable for him.

Luke Ball

No worries. I wondered about Ball. Though did he just nominate the Pies as his team or did he specifically put a price on his head? Money wouldn't have been a deterrent for Melbourne, but him refusing to play for us would.

Ball priced other teams out of contention, considering it was just too much to shell out for a bloke who had suffered chronic OP yet wouldn't even submit himself for a medical.

Hopefully we can get this kid in the psd.... That would put a dint in the disappointment I have, over the losing a number 4 draft pick for pick 88.....

He did both, while publicly shunning melbourne in the process... my hate for Mr Ball started that day whilst simultaneously stoking my collingwood rage... Perhaps I should let that anger go, It's like that old saying. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to anger. No, wait. Fear leads to hate, hate leads to the dark side. Hold on, no... First you get the women, then you get the money, then you... Okay, we'll forget that.

Correct me if im wrong, but in this time of free agency, cant he just sign with whoever he wants. Not sure if there even is a PSD this year?

Only delisted players can. Jacobs would have walked out on his club, not delisted so it's slightly different.

Hopefully we're doing our due diligence with this kid. He's ours for the taking

Hmmn, interesting on all levels.

If he has attitude problems as reported why would we go near him isn't that the reason a few players were traded/delisted?

Those reports are incorrect.

In any case, Ben Jacobs was not traded/delisted. Port have been trying to extend his contract from the day they drafted him.

Those that left were massive projects that we didn't have time for.

More than happy to bring in blokes with attitude issues IF they can play footy...

I'd have an attitude problem too if I had to play for Port.

LoL

Will likely nominate for the ND.

Will likely nominate for the ND.

If that's the case then we have no hope of getting him to the club. Who knows where he'll end up in the ND?

We would have to come to an agreement with his management to go into the PSD. That's the test for our our football department if, in fact, he's in their sights.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
