Herald Sun reports Gysberts to be shown the door...Neeld has gone mad!!!

In the following two photos one of these players has been on an AFL list for 3 years and the other has been part time for a year.

One is committed to being the best he can be and the other gets blown over in the wind.

One has endurance and the other sleeps with an oxygen mask.

One is quick and the other slow.

One is a culture changer and the other needs changing.

Both of these photos were taken on the same day this year.

One is 18 and the other 21.

I'll let you work it out Tex:

What a [censored] effort to post that pic. As has already been pointed out, the guy just had his jaw broken, like to see your face after that tough guy.

But, but, RP, Gys was injured for most of the year.

(Nb. I agree with you - I'm taking the [censored] in this post).

Gysberts was injured. He had some kind of arm injury and first game back broke his jaw. Missed quite a bit of football and came back and played well for Casey and received only one game in the afl before being dropped. Needs to get fitter and stronger but shouldn't be delisted.

I didn't know that when one breaks their jaw, their muscles immediately atrophy...

The kids can't coast.

Don't care where you are picked.

Correct. It mattered little. I couldn't find another photo for 2012, because he only played one game and there were no other Casey pics.

But I'll let others get their jollies over me being a meanie.

Gysberts is one of my favourites but i can understand if we let him go. The kid can find the ball, but if Grimes & Sylvia are playing in the midfield full time, and we draft jack viney and another young gun then i cant see him being a regular player in the 22 for a good number of years.

"trade him while he has value" - we say it alot, perhaps Neeld is thinking the same thing!

What a joke some of you are.

You'll find any reason to bag out one of our players. Moloney's too big, Gys is too small.. Blah blah blah

If you guys put as much effort into actually supporting we'd be much better off as a club.

Gys is a massive talent, and I know personally he has been working his ass off, so all you rumour mongers should pull your heads in.

This has been the best Crap Post ever on D'LAND.

Written by a guy who was obviously very tired at 3:18am.

The replies by" Landers" have been fantastic.

I don't think I have read so many like this replies on any forum.

Merry Xmas boys. October will bring a whole new slant on things.

"Do you notice no double spacing" short but sweet.

Slow, unfit, average to poor kick, no hurt factor. He's good in close, but there's no one elite trait he possesses to become an AFL dominant mid.

Yet you call him a "massive talent". LOL

I don't know why you bother watching footy Stu. Tune into the final tonight and you'll see how some elite mids go about their business.

It's not his job to be elite yet. That's meant to be up to the 25-28 year olds, have you watched footy.... ever?!

Too much reliance at our club on the developing blokes to deliver, or do you think it's a coincidence Neeld is targeting senior players this offseason?

Is that you saying that Stuie? Hmmm. Seem to recall some pretty critical stuff from you in recent times. Oh but then you were attacking the coach and that's different isn't it?

I was critical of him at the start of the season, but I pulled my head in and decided to let him have some time as I do rate him as a person from what I've heard.

But if you want pull out some examples I'm sure we can deal with them. Unless of course you're stretching the truth a bit to suit your agenda?.... Hmmmmm that wouldn't be like 'Land...

I said he doesn't have an elite "trait". There are guys at junior level now that have elite traits.

You struggle with comprehension as well as footy.

Lol... No "Elite traits".... Yeah that's why he was drafted into the AFL... dufus

There are plenty of players that don't have elite traits running around in the AFL. You only have to look at our side.

But if you want to make it as a mid in the AFL you have to either hurt with your possessions, or your running, or negating skills, or speed, or clearance ability ... Gysberts is very good at clearances at VFL level, but he needs an extra 8 kilos at AFL level.

Deficiencies can be hidden in certain parts of the ground, but if you're only capable of being one of the starting 5 mids, such as Gysberts, you've got to have elite traits. He doesn't*. Plenty of players don't cut it as a midfielder at AFL level and end up on a half back flank, or doing some other role, but Gysberts skill-sets are purely that of a mid. It's mid or bust for Jordan.

Gysberts is a great height, so if he can put on 8-10 kilos and improve his running by a good margin then he most definitely can succeed at AFL level, as he's also got a very good footy brain.

But how much does he want it ?

*his clearance ability could be elite at AFL level, but not with his body.

Gysberts is a smart player and whilst over-rated by BP I don't think he was an absolute recruiting blunder.

But as Jack Grimes said, Neeld's methods are not for everyone. If Gysberts is a casualty of this so be it.

Culling five Gysberts' does not equal one Jack Viney, though.

Another thought about Neeld.

Theres a new interchange rule coming next year...either 2 and 2subs or 3 and 1 with limited rotations. Either way its going to mean more game time per player and a greater emphasis on running fitness.

Maybe Im looking for a spark in the darkness of 2012, but perhaps he spent this year getting ready for that. They trained HARD between games this year, possibly putting more emphasis on building fitness than winning games and weeding out the players who couldnt cope with it early. This in a year where Neeld had a chance to do that without losing his job.

I went to a meeting with the coaches and members mid season and Leigh brown said he's NEVER seen a group train harder over a prolonged period of time. Big statement from an Collingwood player and I wondered at the time WHY would they be jepordising the match day performance?

Maybe Neeld and Craig have predicted the way the game is going to go and put all their eggs in that basket? Admittedly Im grabbing at straws but worth a thought.

For what it's worth, I had high hopes for the Gys until I saw him at my local footy club one night.

Shared a taxi with him at 1.30 am after the function, he was going to a nightclub, me home.

He said Moloney should have been captain and that he didn't know why he wasn't in the seinors because " I'm playing good footy"

Seemed a bit disenchanted to me.

Reckon he will go....

I for one see a lot of early Scott Thompson in Gys when he started out. I rate him as a player although it does seem strange that he is still quite thin.

If he is a casuality of the 'behave yourself in or behave your way out' regime then I know that at least we will get a pretty decent trade for him.

I havent heard anything about him going though other than speculation in the HUN so im not sure on this one.

Hey I have an idea

Lets go hire another coach, so then we can start a million threads bagging his decisions he needs to make to do his job.

and if he dosnt make any decisions, we ll bag him anyway.

Maybe Tex, who wants Neeld sacked immediately, could suggest who we should apparent as his successor? Of course it would be best if we appointed, some gun multi premiership coach, but for a six month probationary period and then sack him mid 2013 when we are anything but top 4.

Should be really easy to find someone, who is really really good, on those terms, especially with such a quality list to work with.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
