Brent Moloney Departing MFC

why are people surprised that he is leaving? got told to trim down over the summer to suit the game plan and didn't. so first he didn't want to listern to the coach and then now he faces the consequence and without a club. serves him right with his [censored] ass attitude for not listerning and losing his [censored] over being dumped from the leadership group. we do not need players like that at our footy club, move him on! nothing but a spoilt brat! theres a reason why he got demoted from the leadership group, and if simon black or a jonathon brown say the way he carried on there would have given him a smack on the chop!

What is wrong with the Neeld lovers on demonland!

We have a proven good player over several years - one year with Neeld and there are problems.

Net effect MFC loses a good player - good players don't just lose their talent overnight, but they can become disenchanted.

He just clearly explained the problems between Moloney and Neeld.

Net effect is that we get rid of a well paid senior player that refused to lead when we desperately needed leadership.

It'd be sad to see him go, but it'd be sadder for him to languish at Casey. I'd be quite happy to see him go to Sydney, I reckon they'd be a good fit for him and give him a crack at finals footy.

Clearly Neeld's style hasn't been embrace by Beamer, and as sad as that is (especially since I expected him to thrive) I'm not surprised that we have lost one player that in the past has been in our best. I hope people aren't angry with Brent, or Neeld for that matter, these things happen, it's a changing landscape and I hope he will always feel like Melbourne is his home.

Hopefully he gets a great offer and we get a decent pick.

Because he's a restricted free agent and we've got a heap of salary cap space we should match whatever his best offer is and then trade him to the club of his choice instead.

We'll get more for him this way then we would through compensation as he'll have a shocking B&F return this year.

Neeld was reported as stating on Wednesday that "Moloney" was struggling with the changing game, basically the current tactics dont suit his existing style and he hasn't been able to adjust. I'm sure inside the club they have given him direction, but if he failing to follow it then he has no place. For example if it is true we was told to trim down and didn't that would show a disregard to the new direction of the club. He plays for the club, not the other way around.

Its unfortunate if true (about all the above) but nothing is final yet till announced and done. As for a desintation i expect he would be chasing a top 8 club being nearer the end of his career than the beginnig.

We don't want players that don't want to be here, he'd play the year with a chip on his shoulder and we'd gain nothing. Unless your suggesting we sign him then trade him this year, which clubs aren't allowed to do.

So yet another player has been unable to adjust to the Neeld plan....!

This passage is the relevant one re: Moloney

A player has served eight or more seasons of AFL football at one club, is one of the top 25 per cent highest-paid players at his club, and is now out of contract for the first time since reaching eight seasons of service. (restricted free agent)

The player is eligible to field offers from all rival AFL clubs.

If he wishes to change clubs, the player must decide on the best offer of his choice from one rival club.

His club has the right to match the presented offer.

If the club matches the offer, he may choose to remain with his original club, seek a trade or enter the Draft.

If the club does not or can not match the offer, the player can move to the new club of his choice.

His original club will receive a compensation pick for the loss of the player, on an AFL-determined formula to apply where clubs lose more free agents than they gain in any single transfer period.

If we match the offer then we can trade him and it's what we should do.

I wish Brent all the best if he leaves and thanks for his efforts.

What I am disappointed in, is that we allegedly have a player that 6 clubs are interested in and it doesn't appear that we will be able to trade him and get a good return. Instead we will be given a compo pick and I can predict now, it will be a poor one, far less than one we might have got for trading him or the value of a player we might have got.

Viney and the other mids we get this year won't have an impact for 2-3 years.

We're giving away a ready made, big bodied clearance mid because we have 18 year olds on the way-sounds like Junior all over again,Scully gone,JT not firing!!!

This will come back and bite Neeld on the Ar$e,unless the plan is to spend Green's & Moloney's salary on a big fish in Free Agency.

Hmmm,who could it be?

We get a compensation pick if he leaves without us matching the offer and we don't pick up any free agents ourselves.

If we match the offer then we can trade him and get a better return on him.

To me, Beamer is like a very specialised animal who thrives in a thin band of favourable circumstances. But the moment those circumstances change, this creature is doomed because it can't adapt. You can cling to past achievements, but it will never bring the dinosaurs back to life.

In that case, we should be playing our cards a little closer to our chest. Match the offer...and force someone to cough up a half decent pick.

If there are six clubs interested as rumoured, we should be trying to get an early second round pick at the 'very' least (25-30).

Yeah sorry, I just read where you said 'exactly' the same thing in an earlier post..

Be better if I actually read things before speaking my mind :)

If we match the offer then we can trade him and it's what we should do.

You might be missing something. Think you need to think about it 1 or 2 levels deeper.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
