In other threads, most posters seem to want Cameron Ling taking he midfield. Either him or bring back Ratts.

Is Brett Lovett solely at Casey, or does he play a role directly for the MFC as well?

Brett Lovett is a part time coach at Casey but one with a really good record in the VFL. Normally I would prefer us to have a full time coach in his position but he brings a lot to the table not the least the respect he seems to get from his players. I'm also a bit biased because he was one of my favourite players, a great reader of the ball and played a big part in our rise in the late 80's.

Would love someone like Ling at the club, who wouldn't? because he has tagged or played with all of the modern great midfielders he knows the tricks that each use. If you get a great midfielder as coach in most cases he would know his tricks but may not be as aware of the others at least in the detail that someone like Ling is.

I think we should sack Leigh Brown. Goals are what win games and forwards kick goals. We haven't kicked many goals so it must be Brown's fault. Also, sack Jade Rawlings because it's the defenders jobs to stop goals, and the opposition are kicking a lot goals, so it must be Rawlings fault. Yes, sack all the line coaches, and next year if we're no good again, sack all the new line coaches, and do this again every year until we somehow magically find the right combination that lifts us in to the top 4. What could possibly go wrong with this plan?

But seriously, forwards kick goals because mids kick the ball to them. Therefore, if our forwards aren't kicking goals and our backs aren't stopping goals, it's really because our midfield sucks.

I was going to agree with getting rid of Royal but then I did some investigating around key midfield statistics

To round 10

(I included median as it is less affected by extreme values)

Contested Possessions differential average/median = -15.7/-9

Inside 50 differential average/median = -20.7/-17.5

Tackles differential average/median = -7.2/-9

Clearances differential average/median = -7.3/-7.5

Round 11 onwards

Contested Possessions differential Average/median = Ave(with GWS,GC) -7.45, Ave (without) -8, Med(with GWS, GC) -13, Med(without) -16

(We have closed the gap in C/P but been consistently worse over the past 11 rounds than the previous 10. I put this down to fatigue through a season)

Inside 50 differential Average/Median = Ave(GWS,GC) -4.45, Ave(Without) -6.5, Med(GWS,GC) 0, Med (without) -5

(both average and median have drastically improved from the first 10 rounds)

tackles differential average/median = Ave(GWS,GC) 6.27, Ave(without) 6.75, med(GWS,GC) 1, med(without) 0.5

(Massive improvement on tackling in both average and median)

(not as drastic improvement but it is there in both average and consistency)

so based on stats and facts its probably fair enough if Royal retains his job.

As much as people perceive he is responsible for our midfield woes he should therefore be accountable for the statistical improvement.
