Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

You know how i'm a Melbourne Supporter? Because i'm talking about the Draft.

So the Phantom Drafts around the traps are looking at a 3# Viney #4 Grundy Combo.

Grundy being another tall lad.

A couple of Mock's are then calling Oliver Wines in for 5th.

"In my opinion Wines sits right alongside Melbourne father/son prospect Jack Viney as arguably the most AFL ready player entering this year’s draft. But more importantly for us, as a fantasy prospect, I think his game will also translate as well as anyone’s.

Wines is a powerfully built midfielder with a physique that reminds me a lot of Patrick Dangerfield. Immediately you will notice his exceptional body size."

And from all reports just a genuine Mid, which we need.

Thoughts?

Does he have pace? That's what we are really missing in our mids.

Not quick. Ben Kennedy or Sam Mayes might be considered. From Bigfooty Mock Draft

13. Melbourne (compensation pick) - Oliver Wines (Midfielder)

Height: 185cm

Weight: 83kg

Club: Bendigo Pioneers

Range: 5-20

Description: Wines would challenge Viney for the title of best inside midfielder in this draft. He's a fair bit bigger than Viney and isn't afraid to crash in with his big frame. Has pretty good endurance so can run all day but isn't overly quick. He's a decent kick without being anything special and at Champs it would have been nice to see him convert a bit more of his oportunities in front of goal.He could be a viable option for GC if they really want a pure ball winner but I think they'll just go best available and pick inside mids later.

4. Melbourne (compensation pick) - Sam Mayes (Midfielder/Forward)

Height: 187cm

Weight: 78kg

Club: North Adelaide

Range: 4-12

Description:
I may be alone here but IMO Mayes will become the best player in this draft. Absolutely love the way he goes about his footy. He has one of, if not the very best kick in this draft pool. Top notch kick. Has a lot of versatility with his development beginning as a lead-up forward where he dominated at champs last year. This year has turned into a more full-time midfielder. Has copped some heavy defensive attention this year so is very highly rated. Last year playing forward he had the ability to get great separation from his defender and whilst I haven't really seen him use this burst as a midfielder as much he always seems to have an eternity. I think he compares pretty favorably to Pendlebury in this regard.

7. Port Adelaide - Ben Kennedy (Midfielder/Forward)

Height: 174cm

Weight: 76kg

Club: Glenelg

Range: 6-25

Description:
Kennedy is a lightning quick midfielder/small forward. Is very much capable of doing both to a very high level. Can rack up a huge number of possession through the midfield or kick bags of goals in the forward line. If he was bigger would be a certain top 10 IMO and is still a chance to go there. By all accounts was very close to being selected by Adelaide with the mini-draft pick last year so that gives an idea of where he is at. One thing I really like about him for a guy who has the assets he does is he has a touch of arrogance. (Maybe more than a touch) Just has that I’m going to be able to burn you off look in his eyes when he sizes his opponent up.

i understand that this guy has serious talent, however, i don't see the point of potentially picking two of the same player (wines and viney) with the first two picks. we already have jones, mckenzie, sylvia, gysberts and to an extent, moloney, as ball winners and desperately require outside runners. someone like mayes would be a much better option.

If Toumbas somehow falls through to us then #3 Viney 4# Toumpas is a must.

If not, i take #3 Viney 4# Wines as a brutal duo.

Firstly, I would be shocked if someone bids Viney for 1 or 2 as that will throw 2 of Whitfield, Grundy and Toumpas our way.

Secondly, Wines would be great for some quality around the ball, but I cant imagine him going before any of the 3 above - so taking Toumpas, Viney AND Wines may be a little too much of a similar thing.

I think Toumpas will almost certainly become a Demon at the end of the year, but I doubt we'll take Wines as well.

I think Wines is the best kid in this draft.

Reminds me of Dustin Martin, very dual sides, well balanced kid.

The only thing is, both Wines and Viney play the exact same roles

.

We need Viney to slip, so then we can take Toupas/Grundy and Wines.

Add Viney in - and an outside midfielder at 11-12, Garlett/Simpson or Kennedy.

Do you think Carlton would like two Chris Judds, or the Cats two Joel Selwoods, or Essendon another Jobe ? If Viney and Wines are both good enough they're worthy of getting.

I understand the need for speed, but Viney has good break away pace from a stoppage, someone like Toumpas, or O'Rourke have good speed and Blease will get more midfield time next year.

Even by their names Viney and Wines are a match made in heaven, but importantly they're both leaders. Wines captains Bendigo and has captained Vic Country, add Toumpas, who Captained SA and we are building a club that has leaders with talent.

Trengove, Grimes, Viney, Toumpas and Wines works for me. Add Caddy and we'd have the best midfield in the competition in 5 years. And that's how you win flags.

The modern game, and MFC, needs classy midfielders badly. If the two were key position players, then maybe it would be a mistake drafting both. As they are midfielders, get them both, and a couple more.

I doubt that. Whitfileld is the clear #1, GWS will not risk losing him. GC are another matter but I don't think they will nominate Viney.

Should either of them nominate Viney, we should look them straight in trhe eye and pass.

I wouldn't be so certain that Toumpas will get past pick 2.

I think that will only happen if GC trade pick 2 to GWS for a minidraft pick (likely).

In the scenario, I'd be shocked if GWS didn't choose Grundy.

But if GC have pick 2, they won't be selecting another ruckman.

Agree, It's too early to say, but I think Whitfield and Toumpas could easily end up 1 and 2 in the draft, Grundy might go 2, but could also slide as far as Port.

PS just on the leadership thing, wasn't Viney captain of SA for the under 16s carnival?

Yes the AFL (oops, Suns and Giants) will noiminate Viney to "force" us to use pick 3.

Likely #3 Viney, #4 Toumpas #13 Jono O'Rourke #25 Jason Pongracic

(prefer Viney as 2nd round f/son choice ... #3 Toumpas #4 Wines/Mayes #13 Gartlett #25 Viney)

Wines is a quality footballer. A footballer's footballer. But I don't think we'll go for him.

I think we'll go for a more athletic player. A high level runner and high level user. Wines is only a so-so athlete and so-so user. But he'll still be a very good player - I just doubt it'll be for us.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
