Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Not what Emma Quayle thinks, has us picking him over O'Rourke.

That's not correct.

Whether she thinks we'll pick Wines or not, is not reflective of class.

Shame it looks like Toumpas will be gone.

Viney spoke glowingly of him in his SEN interview this afternoon.

"I don't know anyone that works harder"

If we traded Pick 3 for Hogan does this mean GWS could use that Pick 3 on Wines before we get to use Pick 4 on him?

Yes, but they won't. They'll choose Toumpas, or perhaps a Macrae type. With Ward, Greene, Coniglio and Shiel they have more than enough of Wines' type.

Your draft wishlist is still well & truly alive. Hopefully we hang onto P13 rather than involve it in a Dawes trade. Or the Hogan deal. Would like to think Pick 3 should be enough for that

It's hard comparing a CHF to a mid. I'm no expert on Toumpas, but he looks the consummate all-round mid with good pace, decision making, kicking, leadership, etc. Tonight on SEN they asked Viney who the one player was that he'd like to see get picked by the Dees with one of their early picks and he said Toumpas.

But for me a dominant key forward that can hold down CHF for a decade is more valuable. How many terrific mids do you see running around compared to terrific key forwards ? And the only reason Melbourne are prepared to pay the price for Hogan is because they're predicting he'll become a star.

Hogan for me. But it doesn't mean I don't love Toumpas.

Im not sure if Wines and Viney are best mates like the media make them out to be, but i def think theres an upside in picking players who know each other and have played together before.

Tappscott / Trengove ??

Cool, thanks for that.

Do you think that pick 3 is still "live" for us anyway? Or do you think it was involved in GWS not nominating Viney and we've agreed to trade it to them?

Neeld loves the hard contested ball winners which means Wines comes right into calculation at pick 4. Don't be fooled though, Wines has some tricks, loves a goal & can take a grab. He's more than just your typical contested ball winner. I hope we take him at 4.

I don't know, but the tom-toms would suggest Hogan will be a Dee tomorrow.

I'll (almost) be as excited as I was when I heard the news that Viney was coming with a second round pick.

Will be happy with any of Toumpas, Wines or O'Rourke with pick 4. Gives us another gun midfielder to go with Viney, no matter what happens with our other picks.

There is an article somewhere saying he works out/runs on Christmas day because he knows that nobody else will be doing this, and it gives him an edge.

Wow this is what we need

found it

Toumpas admitted he had learned a lot from reading their autobiographies.

"Shane Crawford in particular, I remember one thing he wrote - on Christmas Day he always went for a run because he knew his opponents wouldn't be doing that," Toumpas said.

"Two or three years ago I was in Brisbane and me and Dad went out, [it was] pissing down with rain and I went out for a run because I knew no-one else would be doing it."

ok so Shane Crawford runs on christmas day but Toumpas runs in the rain

I'll be very happy to get Wines, but he doesn't quite have the class of Toumpas or O'Rourke.

They asked Jack on SEN who he liked in the draft and he said Toumpas, said he was a very good player. That said I'd love to have Wines but I guess we can't have both plus Hogan.

I was seated next to Harrington at the foundation heroes dinner and he said they were concerned that Kennedy was a bit small and would/could get pushed aside by the bigger bodied players at AFL level. Also said they didn't think that Mayes had come on as much as expected this year. I think O'Rourke was the one they want, apart from Toumpas.

From what I have seen, Wines does not seem to have much of a 'hurt factor'. He is not quick, he has a big body but he doesn't seem to use it the way Viney or Dustin Martin do and he doesn't seem to burrow to the bottom of packs to extract. Sort of reminds me of Brent Moloney and I think he will slide, possibly to around pick 10.

Could someone who has seen him more please give their thoughts.

Direct comparison both in looks and game style is Jack Ziebell. He hurts you for the sole fact he will run harder than you and go harder than you.

Nothing needs to be elite because he is one of the few with an elite mind for football and he'll be a class player for many years.

That said I'm still hoping for Toumpas.

Agree

- trade #3 to GWS for Jesse Hogan.

- pick 4: Oliver Wines. He gets the footy, competitive, tough & ready to go. Viney & Wines "hunt the footy".

We need more hunters. Wines will not be a Thomas/Deledio/Martin/Judd type to burst & explode BUT more of a Jude Bolton/Sam Mitchell/Joel Selwood/Jobe Watson type, to get it over and over again and distribute.

Wines will be a 10-yr+ player with the ability to accumulate and get the footy. Pick 4. And he has leadership and a good footy brain.

I disagree, we already have Magner, Viney, Jones and Sylvia to do the job people want Wines for.

We should draft O Rourke or Mcrae who can spread better and be the ones that get fed the ball. No point having so many players getting the ball if they have nobody decent to pass it off to

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
