Sign him for 3 in October if he's improved his fitness in the month off. Otherwise don't get trapped into a longterm deal if the penny still hasn't dropped.

We should be signing Blease and Gysberts. I'd be holding off on Rivers. Limited as a player now. Loved him over the years as a player, but his pace is worrying. I cannot see a position for him going forward either.

Obviously I'm not saying delist. If there are no suitors, then certainly he's a very solid depth player. He still reads the play beautifully and is a better decision maker than Joel Mc.

Sammy has really increased his value over the past two months. He has kicked at least one goal in all bar three of his games - a great sign. Other will be keen so we'll have to pay him 'overs' but hopefully we can sign him for three years. If so it should be well worth it. His pace is extreme and he baks himself which i really love. Not playing on this week shows he is learning. He was clearly hampered by a leg injury/knock which demonstrates a good mental toughness as he played a great four quarter game. Hopefully positive news of a signing soon.

Are you serious, he will get 4-6 weeks off to rest and do what most do just turn the legs over to maintain some fitness, whilst also enjoying a well earned rest to freshen up for a pre season.

Get a grip obviously not aware of allowing the body to recharge and shake off niggles

i've mentioned this before, on the website they have GAWN IN 60 SECONDS, I saw Watts interviewed prior to the GWS game, Max asked him if Blease will be playing on Scully, he said he's certainly be putting his hand up or somthing like that - to me it was obvious that Blease is filthy on Scully because he was a good mate and Scully bullshirted him like he did everyone else and then cleared off on him. Hard to believe he' be chasing him up there.

This should be our main priority at the moment. Then sign Rivers.

yep, GWS will go for him, he's best mate's with $cummy, so he needs to be signed now. He could be the best draft pick we've had in the last 5 years.

I just watched that interview and I'd be surpised if he left.

He mentions playing with his mates and on the wing next year.

Blease is settled and has no real reason to leave now, if he wants coin - throw the wallet at him.

He Is twice the player Scully will be.

Surprised you're not excited, H. You want talent, Blease has more talent than most on the list, and only has one (fixable) flaw.

I can't help but be a killjoy every now and then.

I am pleased. I get sick of other club's top 20 picks thriving while ours are either injured, average or NQR. Blease definitely has talent and once he improves his fitness base and decision making he'll be a player. Like most sportsmen, he seems to be a confidence player. He would have gained much on Saturday.

In particular I liked his 4th (?) goal when he ran around the player at CHF. That was a "moment" that I'll remember over preseason.

I haven't been this impressed by a young player since Scott Thompson in 2004... Hopefully things don't turn out like that did.

I'm just glad that that after 6 years, we can finally see a genuine talent emerging.

Posted

Getting Sam's pen to paper should become a high priority. Still a way to go but has certainly shown he's a talent worth perservering with.

I can only imagine how good he is going to be after a couple more pre-seasons.

If Melbourne's development history is anything to go by, he'll be anything from slightly worse to on the verge of being delisted.

He just won this weeks rising star

Sam reminds me of Brent Harvey when running forward (and Russell Robertson when running the other way).

As others have already noted, once he builds muscle, a tank and builds on his burgeoning confidence, he will be a very handy player.

No downside to offering him a solid multi year deal.

I think that was the moment that had us reflecting back on Sam showing his wares for Vic Metro when we were putting him up as a possible choice at 17 on these boards.

The breaking lines; arching the back; creating goals moment.

That's what was pleasing for me - wanting that kind of run. Blease and Zaharakis were the two from that crop that I was keen on.

Pleasing game from Sam, but it's one step forward and more to come I'm sure.

17 goals from 13 games this year. That's the kind of return we've been wanting from a mid.

that was then this is now.

As of the 2012 pre season we finally have the facilities and people who can develop players...its been a long long time since we've been competitive in this area and its been a long long time since we've been competitive on the field. Cause and Effect.

Misson is an example. An AFL player would look at Misson's record at the Swans and the Saints and be very confident that Misson can develop them physically so they can attain the elite levels required at AFL level and get the best out of their talents.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
