Liked this until the definitive "He is gone"

Given his age and obvious support here plus some of his endeavour with injuries

1 Tell him he has to run has to give second efforts tell him to chase.

2 Remind him that his attitude does affect veryone. He could be a leader Does he want to be? He could be with us or he may need to look elsewhere

1 is unconditional our choice 2 is his choice

As for telling him to do the things you suggest he has been told 1000 times. He is not the sharpest tool in the shed our Col.

His B&F finishes tell you exactly what the club think of him. 8 years and not once inside the top 5. A disgrace for someone of his talent.

if you are right about being told then your metaphor may be correct. If he does have some currency then option 2 may well be his choice. Would hate to see that "talent" return against us.

Dean Bailey has a lot to answer for. The players loved him because he molly coddled them and they never had to work hard enough on their fitness or the defensive aspects of modern AFL football.

Cough, the atitudes & culture had slipped by 2004. With players playing very "Outside" football & the list run down bare.

To blame Bailey for our over 22Yr olds is Not right.

The culture was cosy under the admin/footy in the mid to late 90's, & got worse from there.

In the 2000's our most skilled players went nowhere near a hard ball get, let alone chase.

Enter 2007/8 & the list rebuild beginnings, (see Morton getting soft kicks in the back pocket, kickouts) reminiscent of Brad Green & Yze, Bruce et al.

I know he frustrates supporters but considering his injuries this year he has come back pretty well

And I just love supporters who put crap on our players so offen.....Even if we win (last week) all that was on DL was we didn't win by enough....Jow Blow played s---house and should be dropped/delisted.....Don't think I will come back to this site...

The bit you don't seem to get is that we will NEVER be a contender when we have players who refuse to play as a team or play to a team game plan. Its like Carlton and Fevola.

Sylvia is bone lazy. He has talent to burn and every now and then thrills us all but he is incapable of change it would seem.

His laziness spreads to everyone else. If you are trying to play a zone for example it relies on everyone doing their bit. One hole and the attacking team will cut through it easily. Pretty soon everyone says stuff it why bother.

Its the same as midfielders who refuse to play 'both ways' and run hard when we don't have possession. Watch Dane Beams to see how a good player does it. Sylvia never does it consistently which is why he is rated so poorly by the club and why he has to be traded away. Moloney is pretty similar although is trying hard to change. Not sure he has the capacity to run hard enough though,

And BTW when trading you have to give something away to get something. Sylvia is one of our few that could get something at the trade table.

I watch the game a couple of times , just because Sunday Footy who cares about Richmand V Bulldogs, to me Col Sylvia is at best as a midfielder rersting forward, for the first three quarters on Saturday he seemed to me a forward and was only released to play in the midfield in the last.

We need Col playing most his time in the middle, we have Moloney going backwards and most likely will be at Casey this week, Jones playing well, we need Col to be that second big bodied midfielder.

If he is as unfit or injured as some rely on then he shouldnt be out there. He is. Hes deemed to be fit to play, not just fit to play footy but fit to play AFL. > lets move past this "oh hes injured sh!t shall we . He walks over the line hes fair game.

His worth is exactly what the market will cough up, whether that be a player or pick or combo there of either on its own or as part of a larger player swap etc.

If he is fit, and one cansumme he is sufficientlyu so otherwise he wouldnt be seected. Neeld has shown he will not select for selctions sake.

So Sylivia is out there to play, to paly to his ability which I concede is very high. he never plays to it though. he has never played out 4 qtrs to his ability. He never figures in any meaingful way in Browlow votes. Doesnt even figure in our club voting, Yeah hes THAT good. !!

in case you havent twigged to what this year is really about, and you wont be alone as obviously quite a few players havent either, its about information and weeding. its intel gathering for the FD to see who is actually as good as their ego and who is worth keeping; whether thats by persevering with in the belief they might come up to their forecasts or simply because they are good and deserve keeping.

The FD is 'trialling " everyone, in and out of position to see who passes muster, to see who has the hunger, to see who can play Neeld footy.

I wouldnt be betting any real money on Col having passed that bar yet.

He wasnt alone over the years either. What exactly have we had for the clubs investment of time , money , resources let alone patience ?

He'll be 27 come next season, hel have campaigned effectively in 9 seasons. FFS he'll be a free agent at the end of next year hes been around that long !! And people still talk of him coming good ONE day !! I reckon the Mayans have a better chance of seeing their one-day as compared the MFC with Colin.

Hes supposed to be Elite .... has Elite abilities, but certainly not a comensurately Elite player...............should

Not running or hiding.......I see your arguement and you have made some great points.......All you have said can be said of a lot of our players and I am not saying that Sylvia is the great player we all thought.....but I think we need him and other mature older players to play with our youth otherwise we will just keep playing kids that cannot cope

I still believe he has a lot more value than a draft pick at this stage and has been improving after an injury interupted pre season...
