Poor Clint.

I hope and cross my fingers for him.

I've had stem cell treatment done on my knees and it hasn't really helped, but I'm confident that an athletes body is far less retarded than mine.

All the best Barts!

Sounds like he wants to play on again in '13

And that we want him to also, although i guess that we owe all players a duty of care as this will affect his life after football also, not just ones in our future plans

Yes indeed. I like Barties attitude. We need more of it.

How does an injury like this occur? You see ultramarathon runners with knees that are in much better shape than some AFL players. So is it luck, genetics, the kind of stress AFL places on the knee (like constantly changing directions), or something else entirely?

I agree wyl, and it's pretty obvious the coach does as well. Good luck Barts.

just read that; sounds like if it doesn't work then it could spell the end of him.

poor bugger. never a star, but his first season in 06 was unreal til he snapped his ankle just about in half in the final round, and missed the finals as a result. some of his tagging jobs that year were sensational. has never been the same since - clearly that knee is cactus.

all the best to clint.

Twisting, turning, jumping, stretching, sprinting, colliding.

Not many angles that the knee is not forced to bend at at some stage.

Good luck Clint.

It will be important to know when the likely outcome will be apparent.

If for instance the club don't know if it is a success or failure by October, what do they do about a contract?

I don't want to sound callous, but the real world of AFL is cutthroat and leaves no room for sentimentality.

I suspect that if it is looking unlikely that a good result will be achieved he may 'retire'.

maybe a good knee job might fix his kicking too

What a stupid thing to say.

Clint Bartram is about to undergo a major operation to not just save his footy career, but give him a better quality of life.

He is a great guy, who has been through a lot in his personal life, and gives his heart and soul to our club every single time he runs out on the field.

Why even bring up his average kicking? FFS!

Give me Bartram over Sylvia any day of the week.

6kg in a few months? Half the MFC could take a leaf out of his book. Get this kid to coach morton cook and watts in the gym if the operation goes pear shape.

6kg of fat so that the lipo could be performed. I'd say they would be going for muscle in the gym.

News on his surgery, sounds a bit crazy, but he has put on weight to have liposuction done, to gain stem cells to deposit into his knee

http://www.afl.com.a...31/default.aspx

I have been putting on weight now for some time as precautionary measure in the event i ever have a knee problem requiring stem cells

yeah we do need more of it. Bartram may not be the most gifted of all footy players but what he lacks in that area he makes up in his determination. he is quite a good role model in that aspect.

Good luck Clint.

Definitely. A full and speedy recovery Barty, but none quicker than you need as we want you fit as a fiddle and roaring to go.

I had no idea his injury was that bad! hope it works out for him :)

The prognosis for his procedure will not be known until next year (after lists are lodged) so I suspect that he will be delisted and then perhaps placed on the rookie list.

Sounds like a Hail Mary procedure, shocking to hear that if it doesn't work it will not just end his career but affect his quality of life.

All the best to him, is there any way we can inject his tenacity into some of our other players?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
