When 1/2 of the team is injured anything can happen. So anyone drawing conclusions from a loss or a win is fooling themselves and a burden to others.

Heady words Sue!

Participially the "burden" word

Seems I missed a lot more!

I'm not sure. Perhaps we should ask Richmond (the team with >40% more percentage than us, who recently lost to them).

That's if they still exist! OMG, do they? Or did the ground open up and swallow them whole?

(Jeez, get a grip, peeps.)

Probably not. But as soon as I say 'fooling' themselves I am reminded of John Clarke's sarcastic comment about real estate agents - if you are not one, you are a fool to yourself and a burden to others.

But really I think it is a burden to already weighed down Demons supporters to worry about the result of this match in the terms some people have been discussing.

Or if we win they say "see, we knew you were tanking... you've been exposed as tankers so you thought you better win this one, to take a little heat off...."

Morons. Can't win!

Should just tank it anyway... it will be the last thing they expect.

There's been some semi-serious talk of losing this game in the match day thread, and getting closer to maybe snatching picks 2 and 3. I can't see us realistically getting our hands on pick 2. Even if we lose this one, we'll still be above GC on %, with a easier run home than them. Both of us have GWS, which should be wins, but they have % sapping away games against Hawks and Crows. Just can't see them catching us.

Actually .. hmmm .. they play GWS in round 20 and we do in round 21. So, theoretically, we could be going into round 21 against GWS knowing a loss would guarantee us 17th spot. That would be pick 2 and 3, and a lock on either Viney in the second round or an effective trade up to picks 1 and 2 (should GWS be stupid enough to nominate Viney).

What chance we risk tanking against GWS? ;)

An issue that has been overlooked on this forum that was discussed ON The Couch due to the McLean distraction was of the possible consequences if we lost to the Suns. Healy, Sheahan and Roos were in agreement that there may be some serious fallout and consequences if this happens. Maybe they know something?

Was there any fallout at Richmond ?

They were talking about us and only us and the words were very strong. Catch a replay if you can.

Will do.

Pay particular note to when one of them says something like this may be the most important game we are playing for years and the others agree. This happened after Brock was dealt with. Very strange.

They are kidding themselves. We are a bad side at the best of times but if you take out 7 of our first 18 (let alone 22) with injury then the argument should be made that this will be a very close game and could go either way.

The coach and FD are too new to be let go, most of the players are well aware that they are already playing for their futures.

That only leaves those higher up the chain and I can't see ANY foreseeable reason why a Healy would want to put pressure on them, right?

Right?

Ok I understand now.

Probably just my old brain struggling with the events of this week Sue.

The team I've seen on paper leaves me with no thoughts of negative ramifications about if we lose to GC. They have more class players than us, and I'd imagine our games and age wouldn't be far removed.

Of course I want us to win but no massive ill feelings towards the club if we lose, and anyone that claims we're tanking should take a look at our injury list.

Would anyone be overly surprised if we lose to GC in a season that will go down in history as one of the unluckiest for any club on record ? There's virtually nothing more that could happen this year that should surprise. I'm just looking forward to the finish line.

As for them "knowing something" ? They're just preempting another supposed big story. The media do prologues all of the time. Once again, I wouldn't read something into nothing.

I'm not trying to sound Gardner-esque but it won't exactly be Kristallnacht, with marauding packs of journos breaking into despondent Demonland members homes to mock them for supporting the Dees (Why the persecution complex about journos having a whack at the club? It's almost like people take it as a personal insult directed squarely at them). I remember when the boys lost to Sydney in 1993. I thought the four horsemen of the apocalypse would come any day after that, but you know what? The sun rose and things continued as normal.

Thats why it is so strange. To make such sweeping foreboding statements. Even Blind Freddie could see this is an irrelevant and inconsequential game on paper.

Sounds ominous ADC.

Just watched that On The Couch interview again. The four of them did everything but look down the barrel of the camera and say "We're coming after you Schwabby".

I and a lot of others I imagine will watching this game very, very closely on Sunday.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
