Just wanted to start a bit of a chat about some of the other games going on this weekend - as it's (schedule-wise) a cracking round of footy.

Two top-8 sides last night went at it with the Cats flexing their muscles.

Hawks-Pies at the moment in what feels like a finals match just watching it.

In 15 minutes, 2 v 5 go at it at AAMI.

Brisbane/Gold Coast in a local rival clash.

Carlton Bulldogs in a game probably playing out for pride, but nonetheless an even game.

Port v the Dees should be pretty even I think.

St Kilda Sydney is another top 8 match and they usually have good battles.

Lastly, Richmond v North Melbourne tomorrow should be an absolute cracker and it's hard to split the two teams, especially at the MCG.

A great round of footy - I just wish we were higher up getting into the business end!

Bommers getting pantsed has put a smile on my face.

I'd like a win for the MFC though

Commentators do my head in.

Today (I think it was Breust) did a lot of work in the middle, kicked long for Cyril to pick it up on the goal line and slam it through - Commentator (Basil?) rabbits on about how good he is and how he is "something else." The love for certain players no matter what they do is sickening.

The worst was last night, though.

Pretty sure it was Harley commentating while a Geelong player was having a set shot. He was on, literally, a 90 degree angle with absolutely no way of kicking the ball straight through the goals. He took two steps out to snap it through to which Harley mused "that goal has become a trademark of the Geelong Football Club." What rubbish.

This round turning out to be a pretty big disappointment so far - but I have a funny feeling about tonight.

Haven't heard 'the little master' mentioned thus far......

They carry on about Cyril, when they miss the entire engine of the HFC - Sam Mitchell.

Would he switch allegiance for the right coin??

Couldn't have asked for a more exciting and well-matched round, but three of the four top 8 clashes have been letdowns so far. 67, 49 and 48 point margins. Don't think anyone expected those kinds of blowouts in any of them, except maybe Adelaide-West Coast.

Fremantle-GWS aside, I don't think the remaining games will feature big margins, but we'll have to wait and see. At least I don't think ours will be a big margin...I hope.

What an underwhelming round of footy this has turned out to be. Drubbings all round. Perhaps the Dees can turn it around.

I just wish Jurrah, Watts and Clark were playing tonight. I'm excited to see what my man Jetta can do though.

I say this a bit - but that GC Brisbane game was one of the worst I've ever seen in the AFL.

Im with ya there.Just watched the last quarter, it was terrible. Low scoring game in what looked to be half decent conditions for a t'lihjt game. I bite my tongue for the dees game tonight though!

If you actually watched that tripe, you're a bigger lover of the game than I am.

Yeah I'd love to see Watts, Clark and Jurrah out there.

Just looking at the list of players we have out there and I just shake my head.

No point even bagging our poor draft choices as whats done is done.

I look foward to next year, I really do.

Jurrah back, Watts back bigger, faster and stronger.

Another pre-season into superstar Howe and potential star in Blease.

Clark back, Cookie monster in.

Tapscott will be mass.

Just gotta hold on till then.

Well I think our game and the Brisbane game pretty much ruined the 'quality' of the round.

I reckon we've played in 2-3 of the worst games of footy I've seen this year.

No such luck.

That 'trademark' at Geelong is practiced quite a bit by all the players at Geelong training. I guess that is what Tom is referring to in that instance.

North and Richmond are making up for the largely disappointing round. What a cracking contest.

Made me puke watching two teams we were ahead of a year or two back playing for a spot in the 8. So much better than we are. Even the spuds have a crack nearly all of the time.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
