Trade Jamar

The decision to sign Mark Jamar for a further three years was an error in my view and we should look to trade him at the end of the year. Rational:

• We are a better side with Stefan Martin in the ruck.
  
• Martin’s best position is the ruck and he is not a great marking forward.
  
• Mitch Clark is probably the perfect second ruck option.
  
• The game has changed against ruckmen that offer little around the ground and there is only room for one specialist ruckman.
  
• Max Gawn and Jack Fitzpatrick (and even possibly Jake Spencer) will hopefully come on.
  
• The best available player in the draft at the time of our pick may be Brodie Grundy.
  
• Jamar’s reoccurring calf injury is a worry.
  
• Clubs are often willing to over pay for ruckmen on the trade table.
  
• We have a slow midfield and this is exacerbated by Jamar’s lack of second efforts in the stoppages.
  
• We are unlikely to win a flag in the next three years.
  

On the flip side, I don’t really like trading loyal players and he will become a veteran over the course of the next three years which has advantages. However, on balance, this would be a good decision IMO.

I don't disagree with a lot of your points, although I don't know that I'd call it a "recurring thigh injury" just yet.

IMO, the idea with the 3 years is that by the end of it we would have 2 peak condition/age ruckmen through to take over from him in a smooth transition without losing anything.

Remember, just cos he's contracted for 3 years, doesn't mean he'll be our #1 ruckman the whole time.

Horrible suggestion.

We are still filthy over Scully and demand loyalty from our players yet we don't show the same the other way.

Jamar has shown loyalty by signing and is still the number one ruck yet because of his age, you want him traded.

Every MFC player will want out through Free Agency with that plan.

I would trade Stef Martin before Jamar. In fact, If we could get a good deal on Martin, i would trade Martin.

We can't trade him this year anyway. It's a moot point. I'm pretty sure after the whole Lloyd/ Heffernan drama years ago they put a stop to trading recently recontracted players (something like that).

That's for sure. Besides, an out of form ruckman is still only one of about 5 on the list who can perform that role. An out of form midfielder is at the bottom of a list of about 20.

Clark is not a ruckman. He's a full forward. If his performances in the forward line this year didn't prove that to you, I don't know what will. We need him playing 100% of his game time at FF.

Jamar was dominating in the ruck in the first quarter yesterday. When we lost him, and Martin had to ruck, Griffin got on top and their midfield began to overpower ours. No coincidence there.

they should of waited another week before they brought him in that's all. It will not be a reoccurring injury unless he pushes himself too hard. No way should we trade him but I think he should have been contracted to 2 years not 3.

What has Jamar shown this year? Hardly touches the ball after the tap that goes to no one, and he DIDN'T play when injured so that's hardly an excuse.

BOTH have been out form this year, maybe you should open your other eye as well Jose

Is it a thigh or a calf?? I thought he had been out with a thigh injury, but I did just read a match report (albeit in The Sun) that said it was a calf...

Clark has played excellent footy this year as a forward, but he was also nearly the All Australian in ruckman at Brisbane one year, so he is clearly able to play both roles well.

Martin has played his best footy when he has had to carry the ruck load single handed and IMO gives us more than Jamar. He only needs 15 minutes chop out a game and by using Clark as the second ruckman we can play an extra runner.

Jamar has had average periods, but still has the raw tools to compete and has done on occasions this year.

I believe Moloney now lacks the tools needed to compete, and he has been consistently poor all season.

I don't care who plays 2nd ruck, but leave Mitch in the square.
